Pete Rose

Should Pete Rose be banned from baseball?
Lets start with a little history. In 1989, Pete Rose was "banned from MLB for life" by baseball commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti after an investigation suggested that Rose a player-manager for the Cincinnati Reds in the mid 1980s, placed bets on major league games. Rose later admitted to placing bets but said they were only for his team to win and not against his team. Pete Rose's stats match up well against any major league hall of famer. He was the National League most valuable player in 1973, lead the major leagues in batting average three times and is the all-time hit leader in baseball by far with 4,256.
It is to my belief that Pete Rose should be reinstated to baseball, he's paid his debt for 15 long years and his statistical numbers well overbear any personal weaknesses and bad decisions he has made.
When the agreement between Rose and commissioner Giamatti was made, Rose was under the impression that he would only be banned for a few years. Giamatti then died and Faye Vincent took over the office as MLB commissioner and did not accept the thought of Pete Rose being reinstated into baseball. Here we are now fifteen years later debating what should have been done ten years ago.
Pete Rose has never been a gentleman and liked to gamble even on the Reds but "literally dozens of hall of fame members were guilty of character flaws more severe:
racism, most notably". Pete Rose played his heart out in every game never making the game look bad like some of the stars of today who stand at the plate and admonish their hits making the game and the players look bad. His nickname Charlie Hustle explained the way he played the game and what he did on the field far supercedes what he did as a manager.
There are going to be the people that argue that betting on the games you are involved in is not only one of the worst sins a manager can make but is bad enough ...
