Why do some people bite their nails when they are stressed, while others laugh nervously or punch holes in walls? We know there is some genetic cause for one behavior to develop over another, but what exactly makes one persons mind go completely off track? Everybody lives a unique life, and it is impossible to find one single reason for nail-biting or depression or serial killing in a person. Although there are certain common characteristics in serial killers that suggest the "type" of person who is at risk for developing this behavior, not everyone with these characteristics will turn out to be a killer.
The following research is on the mental disorder shcizophrenia, and how it relates to the topic of serial murderers. I picked this disorder because it is the most common in these types of criminals. Many of them became serial killers because of psychological problems they devoloped being raised in severely dysfunctional families, some had disorders that were probably genetic, some people even say that schizophrenia could devolp because of severe trauma/ injury to the brain. We cannot be sure though which of these reasons if any of them, was the main cause of their violence.
