Racism against Native American

             Racism against Native Americans
             Racism is a very painful problem in the United States. Most people are racist in one form or another, the most common is by the person's appearance. One of the first acts of racism in American was against the Native Americans. At first, the Native Americans were the Europeans' friends. The Native Americans showed the Europeans how to farm, hunt and live off the land in this new America. As time went by and the Europeans became comfortable, they no longer need the Native American people.
             The Native American people were in the way, they had land that the growing population of the Europeans wanted and needed. This was the start of many treaties that the American Government would make the Native people, and the start for racism against them. Out of all the treaties that the American Government made with the Native People, they kept all of them, but the United States only kept half of the treaties.
             Should Americans and the Government be racists against the Native Americans?
             Being racist is because the other looks or acts different than we do. Ward Churchill points out in the "Crimes against Humanity" we just think of the word "Indian" as slang. The way we use this word is like it doesn't mean anything, but it does, it referrers to a race of people. If we used other words relating to other races, it would be considered racist. A reference to anything that is Indian is so common that the people of the United States don't think anything about saying or using the words. Most Americans
            
             do not take into consideration what the Native Americans have done for us in the past, with the wars that they have fought side by side with us to keep our country free.
