Good or bad English!

             Nowadays, English quality can be divided into two directions namely improvement or decline in regard to grammar, spelling, pronunciation and punctuation. There are also lots of complaints about bad English in our newspapers, mass media and work field. The controversy about language judgment has been awakened for a long time. Some linguists believe that the different kinds of judgment about language quality are misguided while others adopt a moderate attitude and standpoints that language is not decaying and declining. It is just in the process of changing. (David Graddol, Dick Leith and Joan Swann, P.370). It seems that the level of acceptance as well as people's attitude towards language judgment are quite discrepancy.
             As a matter of fact, there are various reasons leading to variations in both standard and non-standard English such as society, linguistics, history and geography. People always tend to adopt different forms of language on different occasions. Using one particular type of language is unintended because of the need of dialect and accent being in use. It is not easy to define what English is good or bad due to various intentions. Some prevalent usages and language forms may be regarded as traditional or old sometimes later. Some words and usages are under transition-form incorrectness to accepted variety. Thus, setting an absolute and accurate standard to good or bad English is apparently difficult.
             In the following, the first part of discussion will be the different judgments about English of different people. Then, I will figure out some of the means to judge 'good' or 'bad' English. Also, I will make my viewpoints about the extent and reasonableness to label certain kinds of English as 'good' or 'bad'.
