Coaching is a privilege along with a profession. Coaching should come from someone who loves the game that they coach. If they don't have a passion for the game, it is just like any other job. I coach because I have a love for the game and its fun. I also love to help people succeed through teaching.
What a lot of coaches don't understand is that the sport is supposed to be fun. If the players are having fun, they respond better when it comes to work ethic and attitude. If they aren't having fun they may tend to have an attitude to start. I believe a coach will have a better team if they make the player's experience enjoyable. Just because you are having fun, doesn't mean you can't succeed. I believe that as a coach you will have better discipline, attitudes, and team unity if you interact and make the sport enjoyable while teaching the game at the same time.
I believe in equality. Everyone should get treated the same no matter who they are or what position they play. No one gets privileges. When you begin to make exceptions for certain athletes, you question morals. I believe in laying the rules down to everybody in the beginning of the season so they know what to expect if rules are broken.
I believe in caring about my players. I want to be a players coach along with their leader. I want their opinions and input. I want to make an ultimate decision based on players feelings and my point of view. I want a player to be able to come talk to me as a coach if they have problems. The last thing I want is for my players to be scared of me.
I believe in confidence. I believe that being successful comes with confidence. You can't be successful if you are nervous. Nervousness is the worst trait you can have as an athlete in my opinion. You can not perform when you are nervous. My goal as a coach is to eliminate as much as that as I can.
