George Washington- "The Father of Our Country"
George Washington was the father or our country.
Our famous father, George Washington was born on February 22, 1732. George was born in Westmoreland county Virginia. When Washington was seven years old he moved to Rappahannock River, across from Fredericksburg, Virginia. This was where George was raised. George had five siblings. There was Elizabeth "Betty" who was born in 1733, Samuel who was born in 1734, John Augustine "Jack" who was born in 1736, Charles who was born in 1738, and Mildred who was born in 1739 and died the following year. George also had a half brother named Lawrence. He had two wonderful, caring parents, his mother Mary Ball and his father Augustine "Gus" Washington. His childhood was filled with few good omens, or good times of greatness. Washington received his education at a nearby churchyard school. He was then sent to a thirty mile away boarding school. Washington was not very good at reading or languages and in his early teens his education came to an end. When George was sixteen he met an Englishman named Lord Thomas Fairfax. Lord Thomas Fairfax gave George his first job as a surveyor, surveying the lands of the Shenandoah Valley. Through his work he earned enough money to begin buying plots of land. At the age of twenty one he was employed as the official surveyor of the county of Culpeper. At this age he owned more than 1500 acres of land. In 1752 his half brother, Lawrence, died. The Mount Vernon estate asked if George would take his place as an adjutant general of the colony. Two years later, in 1754, he served as a colonel in the French and Indian War. In 1759 Washington married a widow named Martha Dandridge Custis. George and Martha never had children together, but Martha did have two children in her previous marriage. George Washington died on December 14, 1799.
In the American Revolution, from 1775 to 1783, George Washington served as a colonel. ...
