The philosophy of coaching that I want to express to my players is that playing sports is a gift. I believe all athletes should approach sports that way. Sports were made to give normal people ways to have fun, and that is the way sports should be continually looked at. I value all sports and I value the way that I am lucky enough to be able to play and to coach sports. I value the togetherness that sports bring as well as the competitiveness that derives from competition.
             As a coach, I believe that often athletes do not stop and think about how fortunate they really are. Athletes need to be happy about the gifts they were given. As a coach, I also believe in sports always being fun. Sports were invented to promote fun and I always want to keep it that way. When sports stop being fun then they are not worth being involved in.
             I have formed this philosophy from a combination of things. My parents have never forced me to join anything sports-related. They have always told me that I should do what I want and if I choose to be involved in sports they would support me. From this I gained that sports are to be played for fun and not for any other reason. My parents also taught me that nothing is given and that I should take advantage of my gifts. Again, I believe that being able to play sports is a gift. That is something that should never be overlooked.
             I believe my philosophy of coaching has also been formed partly by my past experiences. I have always loved sports, especially basketball and baseball. I have very active friends and relatives who are often doing something athletic. I have played summer baseball for as long as I can remember. I also played basketball from 5th grade until my senior year of high school. These past involvements with sports have mostly all been positive and that leads me to be positive about sports today.
