Hello Board of Religious authorities. I am Sojourner Truth. I am a runaway slave, a mother who saw two of her four surviving children, sold into slavery and an evangelical preacher and mystic. I have been summoned before you because you consider my writings to be heretical. I am here to dispel these thoughts and prove to the board that I am not heretical. I will try to answer any questions that the board may have so that I can justify my understanding of the divine.
             Thank you for coming Sojourner Truth. We appreciate your honesty and your willingness to prove to us that understand the willingness of the divine. We have many questions for you to answer. Answering them as best as possible will only help us know if you are heretical or not. Many people view God in different kinds of ways. How do you view God?
             I view God as a friend. I can speak to him on a total one-on-one basis. I feel I have a special relationship with God where I can communicate with him at all times unlike other people. One time God revealed himself to me, with all the suddenness of a flash of lightning, showing me, in the twinkling of an eye, that there was no place where God was not. I became instantly conscious of my great sin in forgetting my almighty friend and ever-present help in time of trouble. All my unfulfilled promises arose before me, like a veined sea horse waves ran mountains; and my soul, which seemed but one mass of lies shrunk back against from the "awful look" of Him whom I had formerly talked to, as if he had been a being like myself; and I would now fain have hid himself in the bowels of the earth, to have escaped his dread precedence. (Wise Women, 126) That is how I view my Friend, God.
