The Constitution and the Dangers of Interpretation
If you have been at least halfway plugged in since the latter part of 2015, then you are fully aware of the toxicity that exists in our current political climate. The immersion of Donald Trump as a political newcomer has assured us that our descent from normalcy and bipartisanship was not only swift but seemingly a thing of the past that once provided a path for equality and common ground. Though the tension of 2015 was not the cause of the elitist power grab and lack of tolerance for democratic differences that has sent our country into a civic upheaval, it was merely a symptom that had been festering for decades. However, Trump’s unprecedented tactics and relentless falsehoods have drastically manipulated how we interpret our constitutional rights and has allowed the founding document to be weaponized for political gain. One of the most straightforward cases that demonstrates our assault on the Constitution is the silent protest of Colin Kaepernick. In 2016, the Super Bowl Champion and San Francisco 49ers quarterback took a knee during the national anthem of an NFL football game. Kaepernick, the son of bi-racial parents, used his massive platform to bring aware |

Mindfulness, Meditation, and Personal Growth
When most of us think of meditation, we imagine the stereotypical meditator, sitting criss-cross, hands resting right above the knees, fingers in a gentle pinch. We imagine this person sitting before a beautiful display of nature. When we think of meditation, we most often associate it with other things - chakras, buddha, spiritual awakening. But while these things can certainly be relevant in meditation, they don’t have to be. Meditation doesn't have to be so painstakingly specific. It isn't always about achieving enlightenment or aligning chakras. It’s about personal growth in general: manifesting, affirming, reflecting. We don’t need to abide by a strict set of rules to achieve this personal growth. However, there are three keys in discovering our own path to mindfulness - finding what's comfortable to you, keeping a focus or purpose, and maintaining consistency There are many different ways to meditate and practice mindfulness. The most recommended way for beginners is to u |

Article Summary: The Late Paper by Skip Downing
In the article “The Late Paper," Kim is a college student who is trying to find a balance between her married life and her student life. Kim’s husband, Arnold, was continuously being made fun of by a coworker. His coworker poked fun at Arnold by bringing up the fact that he only had a high school education, thus implying that Kim was more intelligent than her husband. This perspective led Arnold to resent Kim as she grew closer to obtaining her college degree. The day before Kim’s Psychology 101 class final term paper was due, the couple got into a heated argument where Arnold accused Kim of having an affair. As a result of the argument, Kim’s term paper was turned in late, causing her teacher to give her a failing grade. Kim encountered many setbacks including dealing with her upset husband and having to decide whether or not to attend a |

Trauma, Youth, and the Juvenile Justice System
Abstract This paper will take a look at the prevalence of trauma in youth who are involved in the juvenile justice system. We will also take a look at PTSD and Trauma-Informed Care in youth along with three case studies of effective and ineffective treatments and/or therapies of trauma in youth who are involved in the juvenile justice system including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for PTSD, Functional Family Therapy-Trauma Focused model (FFT) and Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM). We will also discuss the three case studies and the validity of those studies along with areas for future therapy research. Prevalence Research has shown that the greater part of justice-involved youth have experienced childhood trauma exposure, with some studies showing that as many as 90% of detained youth endorse at least one traumatic event (Abram et al., 2013). Additionally, many justice-involved youth report experiencing multiple types of trauma exposure (e.g., Abram et al., 2013). According |

My Autobiography: Discovering and Using My Talents
Ever since I was young, I’ve had a strong interest in reading. I could spend hours with my face buried in a book, lost in a fantasy. Reality would slip away, and I would be flying beside airplanes or running across the safari with zebras. As I got into middle school, I would use books as an escape, forgetting the evils of my life. This would lead to me writing my own stories and poems, reflecting on my emotions and dreams for a better day to come. I could fill buildings with the words floating around in my mind, threatening to spill out. I never felt connected with my own life, but I would conjure meaning and purpose in my writing. I could be anybody I needed to that day. With a pencil and paper, I could write my own future, aspirations, and free the hurt from my heart. When it felt like all hope was lost and I could go no further, I had the notebook to turn to. It was almost like having a friend that would never give judgment but instead be open to everything you need to expel, ke |

A City Upon A Hill: Political Alliances and the Ku Klux Klan
Research Question: What were the consequences of alliances between politicians and the Ku Klux Klan between 1866 and the 1920s? Abstract: Once the Puritans came to America, the concept of America’s exceptionalism, paternalism, and nationalism was born. The idea of the world’s adoption of American morale through political and social elements rises at the question of what flaws America has in order to hold accountable the phrase “A City Upon a Hill." The relationship with the Ku Klux Klan, a white supremacy group, founded on Puritan (a form of Protestantism) beliefs, and politicians show the failure of America’s concept of democracy. Literature Review: Throughout 1866 to the 1920s, the expansion in the United States economy caused by the beginning of the consumerist culture and paradigm shifted by global affairs lead to the rise of a white nationalist, supremacist, and anti-immigration group, the Ku Klux Klan. The failure of governance caused the Ku Klux Klan’s rise. Americ |

J.P. Morgan Chase: Things Always Happen for a Reason
J.P.Morgan Chase had just acquired several properties from the Bank of New York in the fall of 2000. One of the locations was five floors located in One World Trade Center. The bank was looking for someone to monitor the reconstruction of the floors, and Anthony and I were up for the position. Anthony had only been with the bank for two years and I had started working at the bank in 1995. There was an interview process for this position, and my interview was scheduled for September 7, 2000, at 10:00 am with Mr. Rutledge. I was recommended by the department head of the facility manager, and although I was overqualified for the job I felt it was a good fit for me. The World Trade Center was an iconic building in the New York skyline — perhaps even more than the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building. I woke up early on September 7 and went to the dry cleaner to pick up my suit for the big interview. After I picked up my suit, I headed back to my apartment to take a sho |

Early Prometheus vs. Modern Prometheus (Frankenstein)
The myth of Prometheus is the story of a creator who both loved and had faith in his creation: humans. Prometheus cared for humanity by stealing fire, just as God created the beautiful garden of Eden for his creations, and Shonkwaya’tíson gives his creations the knowledge of how to survive life on Earth. Unlike all these other creators, Victor Frankenstein does not provide his creation with the tools or information necessary for survival, but instead, abandons his creation because he hated the "monster’s" appearance. Similar to God forbidding Adam and Eve to eat fruit from the tree of knowledge, Frankenstein does not give his creation an understanding of what is right and what is wrong. This choice shows how the creator does not have faith that his creation can be good. Frankenstein's lack of moral guidance leads the creature on a path to destruction that leads him to kill many lives as acts of revenge. On the other hand, Prometheus and Shonkwaya’tíson trust their creations and want them to survive independently on Earth, offering them supplies and knowledge so they can build a functioning civilization. Canada's Public Health and Sodium Reduction Policies
Poor nutrition is a key risk factor in the current rise in disability and morbidity seen in Canada. A key contributor to chronic health conditions is high sodium consumption. Since most Canadians consume 1100mg/d more than the required daily intake of 2300mg/day, managing comorbidities has become increasingly difficult in the last century. It is estimated that high blood pressure is present among roughly 25% of Canadians, over the age of 2017, 18. High sodium consumption contributes to one-third of these cases14. Overall, high sodium consumption can result in stomach cancer, impaired kidney function, and osteoporosis17, 19. Pre-packaged processed foods contribute to high levels of sodium (in addition to fat and sugar) intake among Canadians1,14,18. This paper will be primarily focusing on the policies surrounding sodium levels in processed foods. For food and nutrition sectoral changes to occur, it is imperative that keen administrators and policy-makers are behind these changes. Polic |

Commuter Transportation Problems in Kuala Lumpur
There are obvious reasons why there is heavy traffic congestion on the roads of Kuala Lumpur, despite the government’s many investments in public transport; the uprise of large-scale automobile retail is only the tip of the iceberg. Being a city smaller than the city-state of Singapore, KL's public transportation is less comprehensive, and despite having an extensive train network with stations in strategic locations, there are still significant commuter transport issues. Commuters are often required to take buses and taxis or walk at great lengths before arriving at their destination. Although current train routes provide accessibility between the |

Narrative Essay: A Journey to Amarillo Canyon
For a few months, my uncle, grandpa, and I planned to visit the canyon in Amarillo, Texas. We were going to spend the night with my uncle's friend because he lived with his family lived about one hundred feet from the edge of the canyon and had a backyard trail that led all the way to the rim of the canyon. About an hour before heading out on our trip, we enjoyed our breakfast and then loaded our bags into my grandpa’s car. We hopped in and set off around 10 a.m.; the journey had begun! My grandpa started off behind the wheel and we had a well-paced cruise for the first half of the trip. However, there was a significant change in the appearance of the surroundings since we were two and a half hours away from our house; there were many more shrubs instead of trees, more farmland, and fewer houses and other types of buildings. We stopped to get gas and then ate lunch at a nearby restaurant. After that, my grandpa handed the steering wheel over to my uncle and we continued our journey. We were about |

King Lear - High School Research Paper
King Lear had three daughters: Goneril the oldest, Reagan the middle, and Cordelia the youngest. Lear asks his three daughters to confess their love to him to get parts of the castle to themselves. The two oldest daughters brainwashed him to think they loved him, but they are evil. His youngest Cordelia doesn't have much to tell her father, because she genuinely loves him, so she finds no reason to need to over exaggerate it to him. He suffers the decision he made throughout the play. Goneril is King Lear’s eldest daughter, and she is married to the Duke of Albany. She is a very cruel and selfish person. When asked to profess her love to the king to receive a portion of the castle she states, "Sir, I love you more than words can wield the matter." She truly doesn't care about her father, she thinks is an old man and "old fools are babes again." She only says this, so she gets a big portion of the castle to herself. Lear becomes vividly angry when he comes to her castle, and she plans to have him send away his knights and servants. She kicks him out, hoping he will get struck by lightning in the face. After she has done all that already, she decide |
