The Importance of Good Time Management
For all new college students, managing time wisely has been a new challenge that many did not have to deal with in high school. However, with the right way, anyone can be successful as a college student and still have a good time. To me, life runs on time, and how much I have. From personal experience, when you're working, playing sports and going to school, you learn the importance of time management. As I have gotten older, the pressures of managing my time have become increasingly harder to bear and more stressful. Now that I'm in college, there's even more work than before, and time management has become extremely important. I often feel overextended when it comes to time management. It seems to be the greatest challenge for me in college. It has always been a struggle for me. It's usually brought on by lack of sleep, distraction with something big going on in my life, sickness, family, or sometimes it just happens when my brain has had enough and wants to shut down for |

Department of Homeland Security
America home of the free, brave and protecting our land. We have evolved our lands, culture and diversity. Starting, July 4, 1776,with our Independence. The American Revolution War was the war we wanted our people to have control of our freedom, not another nation ruling over us. Protecting our land, of what we have created. In 1775, Revolutionaries seized control of each of the thirteen colonial governments, establish the Second Continental Congress, and generated a Continental Army. The beginning of homeland security as we know it today. Over the years, there were no threats to the American people from the period of the American Revolution, until in the 1900's. Yes, there were battles and wars, but in gaining more grounds and access to our new country. Thus, showing our national security, starting with the Continental Army, as we know today, The U.S. Army; have been successful in protecting our nation and helped shape our nation. Casablanca - A Classic Film
Many times when we say or think of any word, automatically we relate to an image. Casablanca, for example, principally is associated with the place where U.S. presidents live. However, others like me think it is a great classic movie that was made during the Second World War in 1942. Casablanca is a black and white film that along the years has won the taste of the public. This has been made possible thanks to good music, excellent actors and an unpredictable story. While watching the movie Casablanca, I really enjoyed the different types of music. The music was nice because it shows all kinds of languages and sounds. For example, in one of the flashback scenes in Paris, Rick and Ilsa dance to Rhythm of Perfidia by the Mexican composer Alberto Domínguez. Also another scene from the movie, which was characterized by music and that definitely impressed me, was when Laszlo begins singing followed by many people, La Marsellesa, the French national anthem, even before the occupation of the country. This singing was significant at Rick's Café Américain because it was louder than the Germans, who |

How to Become a Crime Scene Investigator
The career as a Crime Scene Investigator, better known as CSI, can be very rewarding. To help catch the "bad guys", to me, can be very satisfying. My goal is by the end of this paper you will learn how to become a CSI, the first steps to take once you get to a crime scene, what to expect in the courtroom and hopefully how much fun career as a CSI can be. Being a CSI is definitely not for the faint at heart, some crime scenes can be gruesome. If you think being a CSI is like you watch on television you are sadly mistaken. Television glamorizes the long hours it takes to get DNA results or fingerprint identification. These types of results can take days to weeks. This can be very frustrating to the investigator who is being pressured by the prosecutors, the lead detective on the case and by the families for information. How you analyze the crime scene and what you find out in the lab can mean the difference between a conviction and an acquittal. Your education is the most important qual |

Jealousy in Othello, Medusa and My Last Duchess
A common theme throughout love poems and novels is jealousy and deceit. The likes of William Shakespeare, Carol Ann Duffy and Robert Browning personify jealousy as a "monster" which "turns the hairs" on a person's head to "filthy snakes". By using complex extended metaphors and vivid imagery the authors and poets have allowed us as the audience to begin to see jealousy as a physical being rather than just a feeling in a person's head; this creates an encapsulating text which leaves us stunned at the power of a mere feeling. Jealousy is used in both 'Othello' and 'Medusa' as a means of turning a normal and sometimes noble human being into a "monster" or "Gorgon". In Shakespeare's 'Othello' a once happy and prosperous relationship between Othello and Desdemona takes a bloody end due to the destructive powers of jealousy. In Act 3 Scene 3 Line 165-167 Shakespeare describes jealousy as &quo |

The Australian Communist Party
Throughout this essay I will be focusing on a conversation that was held between Shane, Jane and Husna in relation to Australian judges and our parliamentary system. There are several issues which have been raised throughout this conversation, such as what role do judges play in society and how are they perceived? I will also look into the Australian Communist Party case, what the case entailed, why it occurred and what was the outcome, as well as other cases which are relevant to certain areas. I will also endeavor to divulge current sections of the constitution which prohibit certain behavior and laws. I will look into what exactly Jane means by the term, 'reasonably necessary.' I also aim to provide many examples to justify my contention and discuss at lengths the validity of the claims made in the conversation. Shane discusses the Communist Party case and how it showed Australian judges in their best light and how they appeared to be fearless guardians of individual |

The Alliance System and the New Imperialism
During the 19th and 20th century an abundance of change was occurring within the world in terms of the bonding and binding of alliance systems. France would quickly intertwine itself with different countries in order to form alliances to offer a form of security, strength, and wealth for the countries in the alliance as well as themselves. At the same time, there was a race for the empire, which would gain fuel through expansionism of other empires. Additionally, major imperialist activities would occur. Through fear and concern for security, strength, and wealth colonial holdings would increase. The combination of these elements and the binding of the countries through alliances would eventually help lead to the individual countries involvement in World War I (WWI) and the reasoning behind France joining the war. France had several different alliances with other countries. France was a great ally and had the economic, political, and military strength |

Impact of the Internet on Political Campaigns and Elections
Upon entering the age of information technology, the role and impact of the Internet has become more and more crucial in every presidential election, nowadays online campaigning gradually becomes a phenomenon; it has completely redefined the rules of political campaign. It is common knowledge today that viral videos, podcasts, gifs and online chat forums have ruled the political elite in most recent political campaigns. Technology is now fully in use as a means of seeking for support from undecided voters and also as a means to convince your supporters to further back you up. The purpose of this paper is to give a brief introduction about online campaign and highlight the impact the internet has on political elections from various aspects. Political campaigns used to solely rely on speeches, rallies, and newspapers to reach out and motivate voters, grassroots support before was basically tied down to physical interaction with the politician, the major method used to keep the informat |

Gang Prevention Through After-School Programming
Why are young adults in cities involved with gangs? Countless innocent people in the U.S. die from youth violence unintentionally; either being an innocent bystander caught in the recklessness of activities done from gang violence or dying a tragic death of being wrongfully victimized. Children continue to suffered theses effects of crime caused by the growth of urban gangs as countless neighborhoods in urban cities become much more unsafe for children to grow and live flourishing lives, only to have fallen to the gangs in their society. In the past, most of America never knew the realistic danger of a terrorized neighborhood caused by violent acts from gangs. Today, nearly half of America is now witnessing the danger and street violence caused by gangs, either by watching their local news, just to see how close the violence is to them, only to learn this violence is happening in their own city. Or by witnessing in first hand, by seeing the sings of gang graffiti, witnessing the |

Legalizing Torture to Collect Information
The issue of torture is a rising and very debatable topic in the government and the American public's eyes. The authors Jonathan Alter and Henry Porter have different takes on the topic of how torture should be legal or why torture is against the law today in the articles: "Time To Think About Torture," posted in Newsweek Magazine and "Now The Talk is About Bringing Back Torture," posted in The Guardian. In comparing and contrasting these two articles in which the first focused solely on how torture could be useful and helpful for the government, and the second article focuses on the effects of the media's support of torture, also the negative effects of torture. The meaning of torture is an act committed by a person acting under the color of law specifically intended to inflict severe physical or mental pain or suffering upon another person within their custody or physical control. The Allowance of Steroids in Professional Sports
We all remember the 1998 season in baseball which was one of the biggest and most watched baseball seasons. This was because there were two contenders competing to break the record of "the most baseball home-runs in a single season." This had many people glued to the television to see if the two men partaking in this competition could break Roger Maris' single season home run record of 61. At the end of the season, both men went on to beat that record with Mark McGwire hitting 70 home runs, (Sports Illustrated, CNN, 1998) and Sammy Sosa, hitting 66 home runs within the season (Sports Illustrated, CNN, 1998 ). That season is still remembered as one of the best professional baseball seasons in recent memory. Nevertheless, a few questioned the performance of each baseball player, as both men were later accused of steroid use. However, this claim has yet to be proven. The sportswriters claim that both men have taken some sort of performance enhancing drug. These men are n |

Compare and Contrast - The Cultures of India and China
Supporting the patriarchy is something that China and India have in common. Patriarchy is when the men have dominance over the women. This means that the women have to ask the men for permission to go out and do things. Part of the power of men means that they can beat their wives as long as the wounds are smaller than their thumbs. Buddhism started in India, with the story of a young prince running away from his home to find the meaning of life. One day he was sitting under a tree in the forest. He finally found the answers he had been looking for, for most of his life; he called them the Four Noble Truths. All of life is suffering, the cause of suffering is desire, the end of desire leads to the end of suffering, and the means to end desire is a path of discipline and meditation. After that he became known as the Buddha or "enlightened one." He spent the rest of his life in India converting disciples. Then around eighty years old he died, but his work was still continued from his co |

Bonnie and Clyde Research-Based Analysis
The 1930's were a time of hope, disparity, and vulnerability in America. One of the most substantial events to occur during this time period was the Great Depression. Because of the depression, money was limited and people did what they could to maintain happy lifestyles. Movies became popular, young people danced to the big bands, and group gatherings around radios were something to look forward to. The 1930's has also been considered as an era pertaining to its recognition of crime and presence of gangsters. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were notorious gangsters during this time. Beginning in 1932, the rebellious couple began a 21-month crime spree while traveling throughout the Southwest and Midwest. Within this time, Bonnie and Clyde robbed small-town businesses, stole cars, murdered more than ten people, and participated in numerous shoot-outs with the police. On May 23, 1934, the two gangsters were shot and killed during an ambush with police in Louisiana. Although the |

Plato's Republic
Many have struggled to answer the question: "What is justice?" In The Republic, Plato strives to do just that, using the conversations between several characters in order to search for the true meaning of justice within an individual. What truly makes a person "just?" Through an analysis of justice at both a political level as well as the individual level, Plato comes to define justice as that which contains three main factors: wisdom, courage, and moderation, through his descriptions of the "just" individual as well as the "just" city, and how the definitions of the two are intertwined. Adding to this is the problem of Socrates having to remain faithful to the Socratic method, utilizing arguments which are made with reason, rather than rhetoric or emotion. One problem with this is in the three methods he uses to nail the point home, applying three methods which he would typically not approve of: a lie, an allegory, and then a myth. For someo |

The Ideology of Luther
There was widespread support for Luther's ideas in Germany because they appealed to all the classes, highlighting current weaknesses of the church that had been abhorred for years and developing complaints already noted by other dissidents. But more than that they proposed a change, a reform, which at the time was embraced with an enthusiasm, which could only have been because of a desire for change from the laity and a desire for economic and political gain from the Princes. Initially Luther's '95 Thesis' was not an attempt to rouse the people into a revolt, but to prompt an academic debate. However because of the provocative nature of the Thesis it attracted the attention of the German people who were well aware of the Church's deficiencies. The increasingly literate middle class criticized Church doctrines and relics, anti-clericalism among the peasants were concerned with tithe and taxes (it is important to note here that because of The Holy Roman Empi |

Patrick Henry and the Virginia Conference
The American Revolution, as written by historian Gordon Wood was "as radical and as revolutionary as any in history." Twenty- first century definitions of the word radical are: thoroughgoing or extreme, especially as regards change from accepted or traditional forms; favoring drastic political, economic, or social reforms, radical ideas and ideologies and forming a basis or foundation. These definitions all apply to the American Revolution by today's standards. When you take a step back and envision the colonists and especially the signers of the Declaration of Independence consider their circumstances. The word radical becomes even more significant and appropriate. In the book, From Resistance to Revolution, historian Pauline Maier gives some insight into the term radical. "To understand the emergent revolutionary movement, this study concentrates upon men in the vanguard of opposition to Britain, whom I have chosen to call "radicals." The term has |

Peta and the Infamous McCruelty Case
We've all heard about PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), if that's not the case PETA is an organization dedicated to animal rights. Their animal rights campaign include ending fur and leather use, stop bullfighting, and some others. I personally agree with animal rights, I am a huge animal protector and even sometimes an activist, a revolutionary or just a plain crazy. Almost everyone has heard of McDonald's, and most people have eaten at this fast food chain at least once, but many people don't know about the horrific cruelty that goes into every portion of chicken served under McDonald's. In the slaughterhouses of McDonald's U.S. and Canadian chicken suppliers, birds are dumped out of their transport crates and hung upside-down in metal shackles, which often results in broken bones, extreme bruising, and hemorrhaging. Workers have the opportunity to abuse live birds, and birds have their throats cut while they are still conscious. Many birds are immersed in tanks of scalding-hot water while they are still alive and able to feel pain. I can only imagine the suffe |

Argument - No Smoking Allowed
Today about four hundred thousand Americans die annually due to cigarette smoking. One and a half million people quit smoking a year, but more than fifty millions people continue to smoke. Smoking is one of the most major public health issues in America. The largest population of smokers in the country are college students. Tobacco companies mostly use advertisements that draw college students in. As of October 5, 2012, at least 826 colleges or universities in the U.S. have adopted 100% smoke free campus policies. These policies eliminate smoking in indoor and outdoor areas across the entire campus including residences. Just to name a few in Pennsylvania you have, Keystone College, Lackawanna College, Widener University, and Lehigh Carbon Community College. In the list of campus in Pennsylvania, Northampton Community College is nowhere on the list. Northampton still allows students to smoke in their cars, and in designated spots around their facilities. Now is the Time for a College Education
Due to advances in technology, time or location is no longer a factor in obtaining a college degree. Education is important and a must-have in today's society. The lack of education can impede someone's career progress drastically. A college degree is required for most jobs on the market today. Also, due to the bad economy, a college degree is needed to compete with the other applicants. Fortunately, in today's technology-driven world, students have a choice when obtaining their education – traditional classroom or online courses. Flexibility in class attendance is the main reason students prefer online courses. Online courses accommodate the schedule of a mother working full-time that wants to attend her child's activities in the evening. Lectures and discussions can be reviewed late at night, early in the morning or during a child's nap-time. Traditional classroom courses are scheduled at the same time and same day each week with no flexibility. This may not be conducive |

How the World Views America
America is a beautiful country, in fact the name 'America' in Mandarin Chinese literally means beautiful country. We have an abundance of creations in America that help make our lives easier and more pleasurable. Even though we are still a fairly young country in comparison to the rest of the world, America is doing well for itself. We as a country try our best to aid other struggling countries and try our best to have good relations with most other countries. However, it may come as a shock to most oblivious Americans as to how disliked we are. Even though we try so hard to be good and help other countries, many dislike us because of our so-called culture, the power and opportunity that America has, as well as the fact that America has a tendency to meddle in the affairs of other countries. In comparison to the other countries, America is still a pretty new country; which can be one factor as to why others hate our culture so much. Other countries have had hundreds, even thousands |

The Economic Model of Populism
The economic model of populism is an approach to economics that emphasizes growth, income distribution and the risk of inflation, deficit finance, external constraints and the reaction of economic agents to aggressive nonmarket policies. This occurs when governments seek to spur economic growth by the expansion of domestic demand and redistribution of income. Populism was a common policy that was chosen by many governments in Latin America in the late 20th century. This was due to high-income inequality in Latin America. This then contributed to intense political pressures for macroeconomic policies to raise the incomes of lower income groups, which in turn contributed to bad policy choices and weak economic performance. In Latin America however, the populist policies do ultimately fail and when they did fail it was always at a staggering cost to the very groups that were supposed to be favored. Populism has severe consequences economically and domestically, and there are different pol |

The Most Unforgettable Person I Have Ever Met
In my eyes , my grandmother will always be the most wonderful, patient, irreplaceable, and unforgettable person that I have ever met. Grandma, who was a unique person in all senses, also had a unique name. Her name was Visilia. We used to called her Mama Vashi because she was a caring, loving, and beautiful person, but Mama Vashi was not only beautiful on the outside, but also inside. She had the biggest heart that a person can have. I remember grandma was always willing to help everybody who needed her, even after having her hands full with twelve children and many, many grandchildren. She always found time to help and listen to others. She always said, "There is a solution to every problem," |

Overview of Violent Cartoons and Children
Cartoons have accompanied with us since we were born. Everyone must have watched cartoons in childhood. Most of the action and expression in cartoons are actually designed to be exaggerated and unreal in order to impress children. Along with the development of cartoons may start becoming unimaginative, caricaturists may try to add some violent action into cartoons for the purposes of attracting children again. Hitherto, these cartoonists do not consider these additions be actually harmful to children; cartoonists keep on adding more effect like violence, profane languages, and even sexuality into cartoons nowadays for attracting children. Consequently, violent cartoons on television are harmful for children as they may imitate what they see and hear in cartoons, which can gradually influence their mental development and then may lead to social problems in adulthood. Children are just like a sponge as they assimilate what they see and hear in cartoons that may lead them to imi |
