Kantian - Duties to Oneself
1. Kant's Division of Duties One of the principal aims of Kant's Metaphysics of Morals, especially of the Doctrine of Virtue, is to present a taxonomy of our duties as human beings. The basic division of duties is between juridical duties and ethical duties, which determines the division of the Metaphysics of Morals into the Doctrine of Right and the Doctrine of Virtue. Juridical duties are duties that may be coercively enforced from outside the agent, as by the civil or criminal laws, or other social pressures. Ethical duties must not be externally enforced (to do so violates the right of the person coerced). Instead, the subject herself, through her own reason and the feelings and motives arising a priori from her rational capacities -- the feelings of respect, conscience, moral feeling and love of other human beings, must constrain herself to follow them (MS 6:399-404). Among ethical duties, the fundamental division is between duties to oneself and duties to others. |

Fostering Inclusive and Harmonious Workplaces
Abstract Today's aggressive, competitive-driven society has heightened the need for diversity management in the workplace. As more and more companies seek global expansion, diversity management will have a vital effect on company growth and profitability (Wrench, 2002). Globalization necessitates more collaboration among people from diverse cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds. As a result, in order for companies to be successful, they must embrace diversity with a brand new perspective than what they have in the past (Bergen, Soper and Foster, 2002). The status quo of diversity has changed; it is no longer just about hitting the numbers, but on how organizations deal with, think of, act toward, and innovate with its people (Kelly & Dobbin, 1996). So, how can diversity play a role in a company's strategy to support business growth? This paper aims to answer that very question as we explore the evolution, future, and benefits of diversity management, various leading diversity m |

Sleep and Healthy Lifestyle Research
Sleeping, along with other healthy life habits has arisen awareness in recent years. As will be stated later, the majority of university undergraduates rarely took healthy living seriously. University students have long been known, as claimed by Dement (1997), to burn the midnight oil and maintain an unhealthy lifestyle, which could be potentially hazardous to their health condition. Apart from dozing off in the class, sleeping deprivation and poor sleeping quality led to many long-term effects on the health conditions. Recently, we conducted a survey among the National University of Singapore (NUS) undergraduates to explore their knowledge of healthy lifestyle and sleeping habits (see Appendix A Interview Questions). The research mainly covered the concept of a healthy lifestyle, the sleeping hours and rituals. The aim of this paper is to reveal the general sleeping and healthy lifestyle conditions among NUS undergraduates and to revoke awareness on the healthy lifestyle and sleepin |

Financial Investment
Our investment attitude on Stock Trak was to diversify our stocks in various industries; this is to lower our investment risk. Thus, we bought multiple stocks, which included Exxon Mobil Corp., McDonald's Corp., and Home Depot Inc; our goal was to spread out our investments. We purchased stocks ranging from coffee industries like Starbucks to electronic companies such as Apple. We also focused on big corporate such as Walt Disney Co. and many others. The goal was to be as profitable as possible with our investments without too much risk. Investments that were not showing gains were sold back either through short sell or limit buy. One of our strategies was to rely on economic trends. We looked at products that were in high demand and were top selling. Some of the products identify by our group as profitable, were Apple, Netflix, Starbucks, and Exxon; we purchased all three stocks anticipating a good return on our investment. The virtual industries also seen to be the best buy in today's economy since technology is an ever growing industry. The new generations are all technology savvy so that encouraged us to invest in that area. Netflix being a l |

The Reputation and Legalization of Marijuana
The legalization of drugs in the U.S has been a very examined issue in the past century. Within the past decade, marijuana has become decriminalized in 12 states. Although there are negative consequences that would come along with the legalization of marijuana, there are also positives. The main focus here will be on the positives because that's what my beliefs correlate with. According to Erich Goode, author of Legalize It, states, discontent over the efficacy and costs of America's war on drugs has led to calls for drug legalization. But this course, too, has its pitfalls (Goode). I believe that in today's world the legalization of marijuana could be ideal for multiple economical reasons. Even though marijuana has been illegal for decades, we are now coming to the realization that marijuana, in fact, is less harmful then alcohol and other illegal psychoactive drugs. The reasons why marijuana should be legalized are because it can be used as medicine to treat and preve |

Equal Rights inn Marriage
Let's start off by defining marriage, it is a legal and social sanctioned union, usually between a man and a woman, that is regulated by laws, rules, customs, beliefs, and attitudes that prescribe the rights and duties of the partners and accords status to their offspring (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). Throughout history, most societies needed a way to maintain a more secure environment for procreation. Devise a solid system of rules to handle the property rights, and the protection of family bloodlines. Through time the institution of marriage met these needs. To really get a good understand of the union between a man and woman and to be recognized by law or custom, we will need to take a good look into the history of the institution of marriage. Marriage can be considered as a social institution. This recognized relationship could only exist between a man and woman. Inherently this union is recognized by law or moral custom, dual hated purpose. The marriage is a package deal that co |

The Success of Mike ilich
?I. Executive Summary Mike Ilitch was born on July 20th 1929; he is an American entrepreneur who started a business making pizzas in 1959. Ilitch started the business with $10,000 he had saved up while playing minor league baseball. Ilitch's first Little Caesars restaurant was opened in 1959 in a shopping mall in Garden City Michigan. By 1999, there were over 4000 Little Caesars restaurants in eight different countries. In 1982, Ilitch bought the Detroit Red Wings for $8 million dollars. The Red Wings are one of the National Hockey Leagues original six franchises. Before Ilitch, the Red Wings were not drawing much fan interest. Ilitch saw the potential in the franchise and he invested some money into the team and by 1986 ticket sales increase, selling out almost every game. The Red Wings won their division becoming contenders for the Stanley Cup. By the mid 1990's, the franchise was valued at over $200 million dollars. Bourdieu, Gramsci and Radical Mobilization
Throughout contemporary times there have been various student movements advocating social reform in many countries throughout the world, but perhaps one of the most well-known and influential student movements is the Students for a Democratic Society. The SDS movement was most active during the 1960's and inspired by the Civil Rights Movement. It advocated for many social issues such as equality, economic justice, participatory democracy and peace. Using the theories from Pierre Bourdieu's books, Logic of Practice and Distinction and Antonio Gramsci's, Selections from the Prison Notebooks, we will be able to better understand the mechanisms behind the radical mobilization of the 1960's and give an explanation as to why they happened. Bourdieu would analyze that the mechanisms that allowed for the SDS movement and other radical mobilization of the 1960's could be explained through his terms, habitus, reproduction, misrecognition and the accumulation and maintena |

Abercrombie & Fitch Strategic Analysis
Dear Mr Jefferies, As per your request, please accept this careful strategic analysis of your respective organization Abercrombie and Fitch Co., which address the key issues currently experienced by its subsidiary brands, as well as a recommendation of a competitive strategy for the next five years focused on alleviating the key issues as well as improving the profitability and profit growth of the company as a whole. Through analysing the industry, internal aspects, key issues, and current strategies in place, an evaluation of strategic alternatives has indicated following the diversification into a new product line strategy. Continuing as a focus differentiator with related diversification allows A&F to increase its domestic sales without markdowns, builds its weak home brand equity, and gives it a competitive advantage over its rivals through using its value chain activities to create consumer demand for this product line. Causes of the Civil War
What caused the American Civil War? A historian once noted that the Civil War was really the "final shots" of the American Revolution. It is amazing that even today, over 130 years after the Civil War started, there is still passionate debate regarding the true cause of the Civil War. Slavery was with no doubt the immediate cause of the Civil War, but the intentions and views were not so much a moral issue, but more so an economical issue. This brought forth separation of both the North and South due to incompatibility and any consideration of compromise to either side's proposals. With said, this in time led to the ultimate result of war. The causes of the war can be traced to the roots of our political fabric, in the complexity of mankind, in the fundamental law, in the Constitution itself, and in the institution of slavery which it recognized and ironically intended to protect. If asked what was the real issue involved in the conflict, the average American citizen |

Remembering My Father
A special dad is hard to find but my father was a wonderfully eccentric man. He was a gentle, hardworking, generous, avoided conflict and always tried to make people laugh. He didn't tell others what they should believe or how to live their lives. Even as a parent, he was often reluctant to give his children advice. It was important to him for us to make our own choices and be happy with our decisions. As long as we weren't hurting anyone else, it was okay with him. I remember when I was five or six years old when my dad taught me how to mow the grass. He taught me how to check the gas and oil, how to start the mower, how to mow around the edges of the yard, house and garden and how to mow straight lines. He would take my brother and I to Mackinaw every weekend to go swimming at a hotel and we would all sing in the pool at the hotel. I remember dinner times when my dad would pile my plate with vegetables, even though he knew I wouldn't eat them. I would cry until I coul |

Babylonian Mathematics
Babylonian mathematics refers to the early use of math developed in Mesopotamia by the Mesopotamian people. Babylonian mathematics refers to the period of time of the early Sumerians until the fall of Babylonian in 539 BC. The land of the Babylonians existed between the Tigris and Euphrates valley and is referred to the place where humanity first developed. Societies began to move away from the nomadic existence to the more developed urban centers. This shift in society from the normative existence to the urban centers brought together many different tribes and people together leading to a blending of urban ideas and beliefs. This blending of ideas lead to a more advanced society. One of the main contributions of the Babylon people was the progression and development of writing in their own cuneiform script. This cuneiform script allowed the people to keep their records and knowledge in order to be passed down to future generations. The script allowed the people the ability to docume |

Advanced Fiber Reinforced Composites
Fiber-reinforced composites are composed of axial particulates embedded in a matrix material. The objective of fiber-reinforced composites is, to obtain a material with high specific strength, high specific modulus, high strength, and high elastic modulus for its weight. The strength is obtained by having the applied load transmitted from the matrix to the fibers. Hence, interfacial bonding is important.Classic examples of fiber-reinforced composites include fiberglass and wood.A commonly used glass fiber composition for structural composites is E-glass, in which E stands for "electrical type". It is a lime-aluminum-borosilicate glass with zero or low sodium and potassium levels. It is popular because it has chemical durability. A more advanced and expensive fiber is S-glass, a magnesia-alumina-silicate glass that is used for high-strength applications. There are three types of fiber geometry: Aligned Random Woven There are 2 different geometries for aligned fibers: |

Men and Women in Media
For many years, advertisements have been displayed on television, buses, in magazines, and virtually everywhere, you go. These advertisements are seen by billions of people each day and are meant to sell some kind of service or product. However, in today's society these advertisements do more than just try to sell goods and services; they, in my opinion, show expectations of how women should look and act. Since I grew up with my sisters, I have seen first-hand how vulnerable young women are, I believe that it is wrong for companies to make expectations of women in the ads that they produce. These advertisements reflect the social expectations surrounding gender and greatly affect men and women in many different ways. Media texts today represent gender, setting standards on society. Our ideas on what it is to be masculine and feminine could be decided by what we see in magazines, cinema and television, as well as other mediums. Through trends in these outlets society has somewh |

Abortion and the Right to Choose
A woman dealing with the dilemma of an unwanted pregnancy puts her in the position of having to make one of the most difficult decisions of her life. William Robert Johnson from the organization Christian Voices for Life wrote, "All over the world abortions are performed every day, and for many different reasons". And he's right. But the reasons don't matter. What matters is who has the right to make that decision. When a woman makes the decision to have an abortion, it is the last and only option she feels she has. We need to keep these women safe. Keeping abortions legal will allow women to have a medically safe abortion. To make abortions illegal would be to irresponsibility leave a woman vulnerable to the medical hazards of having an illegal abortion. Polly Bergen from the organization Pro-Choice America, tells of her own experience with an illegal abortion that left her infertile and nearly killed her. After she decided to have an abortion, she started her search for someone to help her. Someone gave her the phone number of someone who pe |

Life Cycle of a Flowering Plant
[pic] Almost all flowering plants are known as 'Angiosperms', which means plants whose seed production comes from flowering. Seeds are packaged within a fruit to be transported away from parent plant. Angiosperms are vascular plants containing xylem and phloem in bundled patterns. Plant cells, unlike animals they have multicellular haploid and multicellular diploid stages in there cycle. By the process of meiosis, diploid sporophyte cells produce haploid spores. Each haploid spore undergoes mitotic division creating multicellular haploid gametophyte. Gametes are the by-product of multicellular haploid gametophyte by process of mitosis. However gametes are not the direct result of mitotic division. Diploid sporophyte is the creation of two gametes fusing together. During fertilization, multicellular haploid cells change to multicellular diploid. Meiosis is the process of cell division (reproduction). Process of meiosis a cell undergoes two divisions. A cell divides to produce two c |

Risk Management Assignment
1.0 Introduction Project selection is the process of evaluating individual projects or groups of projects, and then choosing to implement some set of them so that the objectives of the organisation will be achieved' (Meredith and Mantel, 2003). Project selection is a normally general term of project management method to consider in what project should be either accepted or rejected. The means at the beginning of project selection will be provided by project selection activities. Also, the methodology to validate project will be provided to continue the project completion (Hill, 2010). With the needs of business and the demand of high returns, project selection is brought to succeed challenges, risks, and opportunities. Actually, each project normally has the differences of costs, benefits, and risks. As well as, it will also have individual definition of goals, objectives and priorities. The process to narrow some possibilities by screening all potential projects can help to i |

How I Became a Competitive Gamer
To most kids, gaming has an unlimited attraction - in fact, for some, it seems to have almost taken over their souls. Nearly every kid likes to be the hero in their video games. And, I admit that I am one of them. I started playing video games when 8 years old. At first, it was all about having fun. Then, one day, I began to play a game called "Counter-Strike 1.5". This game was influential in making me thee serious competitive gamer I am today. My first memory of playing video games was "FC" games. I had to go to the gaming station to play them secretly, because my parents thought playing games was harmful to my studies and an FC was too expensive for a normal family. Unfortunately, one day I was caught right outside the station by my mother. She was angry and warned me that if I went back there to play the games again, I would lose all my allowance and pocket money. I was frightened by this threat, so for a very short while, I gave up video games. After two game-less weeks, my desire to get my hands on a game controller kicked into overdrive because my uncle bought a new game system. He was a gamer even |

An Experience That Made a Difference
It was June 2008. Kathy, Zach, Danny, Nika and I just returned from the annual family reunion. It was mid-day when we arrived. I pulled in the drive, and said "Man, am I sure glad to be home". Kathy turned to me and said, "Me too!" The kids got out, and grabbed a few things to start unloading from the weekend. I unloaded the rest of our belongings, since it just went into the shed in the backyard. Kathy and I had been having marital issues for some time now. She decided that she needed to get away and go visit some old friends of hers. They lived down near down in southern parts of Missouri "Columbia, MO." So she went on a road trip and was to return in two days: Tuesday. It was Tuesday, June 24th, 2008. I woke up alone this morning, feeling kind of sluggish from the long week-end. Kathy and I loved to drink together. I went about my normal morning: grabbing the ole cup of Joe and a cigarette before hopping in the shower to head off to work. I worked two job |

Group Development
There are many different scenarios where a group will come together and work as one. Working through the stages of group development will happen naturally and in some cases with a little help. Some groups may not make it through all of the stages to get the end result of a final project. The more group members in the group the harder it can be to reach the adjourning stage of group development. Luckily, the current group is a team of two, so reaching the group development stages should be easier. Initially when working in a group for the University, the instructor has the teams complete a team charter in which all group members communicate their strengths and how to handle problems. This charter is an ice breaker to start the storming stage and norming stage. The first stage is complete by the facilitator in assigning the teams. The storming stage allows group members to discuss what they are good at and what they are not so good at. The charter allows the team to discuss how they |

Benefits and Rewards for Employees
My research will look into the result of the financial element of payment specifically rewards and benefits to employees. The intention of my research is to show the end product of financial rewards and benefits to employees in terms of motivation and retention. The research will add to the existing information by presenting a new outlook on benefits and rewards and what extent the monetary aspect of benefit and reward affects employee motivation and retention. Both the employee and management have a significant part in the achievement or failure of the company. Employee contribution is much greater, they must have the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their job function therefore management must find the time and effort to fulfill the employee needs. Every person has their own personality and needs; some may be similar, identical or, completely different. Employees, management, Human Resources and all involved must understand the company's benefit and reward system. |

Prose Analysis - A White Heron
It takes a talented writer to make a dramatic story out of a little girl climbing a tree. This passage was obviously written by a talented writer. A unique introduction is but one of the things that gives this story a dramatic tone. A large portion of short stories that are considered "literary classics" begin with scenes bursting at the seams with vivid imagery, painting life-like pictures of the setting. This author, however, chose a different approach. The beginning to this tale is a comparatively simple one, describing what could be viewed as an average little hilltop with some trees; but it is not this that creates drama, even mysterious drama. In the midst of this quaint little forest, there is this "great pine-tree," seeming rather out of place. We are given little description of this tree, and it is precisely that which begins the dramatic effect. Why is the tree there? What makes it special? What has happened that it is so much bigger than those surrounding it? The reader does not know. We have a mystery, and "mystery" is nearly synonymous with "drama." We are then told, again without much imagery, of the wo |

Diesel vs. Electric Engines
An engine is a railway vehicle that provides the motive power for a train. There is an engine at the head of the train and behind it there are several carriages. The engine and the carriage together are called a train. The train runs over a pair of steel rails. In contrast the first successful engine was built by Cornish inventor Richard Trevithick. In 1804 his unnamed steam locomotive hauled a train along the tramway of the Penydarren ironworks, near Merthyr Tydfil in Wales. After long time two new engine came in railway industry that totally changed the face of railway transportation and that was diesel engine and Electric engine. Both engine are capable to carry tonns of carriages and able to work in any weather condition. However Electric engine overriding the diesel engine according to circumstances of high speed, lack of emission into the atomsphere, efficiency. My Family Pets
You have to believe me, I really do like small animals. I like all animals, really. But as a small child I especially enjoyed small animals. I owned small animals for almost the whole of my childhood and adolescence - eighteen years of owning little critters. However, during those eighteen years, twenty-six small animals fell into my care. Spoiler alert: not one of those remains. That's not to say that I single-handedly and systematically killed off an average of one and a half small animals on a yearly basis. My family helped. My family's menagerie in miniature began even before I was born; my parents owned parakeets. I remember very little about them, except that the green one was Flit, and the white one was Snowflake. We owned Flit first; he loved to fly around and land on my dad's head. He loved to fly around so much that he would peck through the plastic food dishes on his wire cage, dropping the dish to the newspaper floor and spilling his seeds, and would fly out through the |

John Updike and A&P
Every day we go on with our usual routines, not often noticing our admirers, or certain passers-by. In life, there are many unsung heroes; most go unnoticed and also innocent and naive. These qualities are often taken for granted and abused. Innocence is not ignorance; however it lacks knowledge in the same manner. We are ignorant of our innocence until we realize that it has left us. It is based more on naivety or rather, the lack of experience we have. In John Updike's A&P the innocent of a young man's breakthrough in a local grocery store from his blindness of daily routines in order to shed some light onto part of reality that he has been missing. This loss of innocence, and being a part time hero is a realization of such a loss of wanting to be rebellious, Such as the main character Sammy in the short story A&P. Sammy had the same day-in, day-out job that many people before him had and many more will continue to have. The job was a way of life for him. He didn't like the w |
