Travel Risk Analysis: A Qualitative Research

Introduction The present report provides an analytical insight of the qualitative interviews conducted by Segue Net Solutions on travel risk perceptions of travelers, emphasizing the benefits of travel insurance. The travel and tourism industry has flourished significantly over the years and has become one of the most lucrative and revenue generating sectors for a number of countries[ CITATION Gar13 l 1033 ]. Though true, the industry is subjected to a number of obstacles due to the local and international tensions pertaining the particular country or region. Symbolism of the Brandenburg Gate

Throughout its existence, the Brandenburg gate has served as an entrance to the famous avenue Unter den Linden that led to the Prussian royal palace. It was commissioned by the Prussian prince Frederick William II during the late 19th century and was constructed between 1788-1791. It is a neoclassical structure and stands 66 feet high, 213 feet wide, and has five arches. It is one of the most culturally-rooted structures in Germany, and it has had an intense impact on German society and politics like no other architectural structure. It highlights Germany's industrious rise to power, while also serving as a reminder for the hardships that the German people endured through the later half of the 20th century. In October of the year 1806, Napoleon marched triumphantly under the arches of the Brandenburg Gate. He had successfully captured and occupied the city of Berlin, adding the Prussian capital to his growing empire. As a momento

Foreshadowing Death in A Rose for Emily

William Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily" is a Southern Gothic story set in post-Civil War Mississippi. It is the story of a lady named Emily and how she is determined to never be alone in her life. Young Emily always had her father; she was never lonely and neither was he. Emily's father runs off every boy who may be interested in Emily. He keeps Emily extremely closed off from everyone, including her family. They live in the same house that never changes. After her father's death, Emily falls severely ill; when Homer comes along, Emily is finally free to make her own decisions. Emily always had her father, so she uses Homer to replace the loneliness in her heart. She is determined to make this man who identified himself as "not a marrying man," her husband (Faulkner 6). When Emily finds out that Homer is going to leave town, she devises a plan to keep him around. After Emily's death the townspeople are anxious to see inside her house, but when the

Ways of Defining Beauty

The word beauty is used generously when someone tends to describe something that appeals to them. To have beauty, an object must really grab the attention it deserves, much like a magnet does to metal. Beauty should strum the perfect note in your brain to give a sound pleasure to the eyes. It should be happy and righteous along with a sense of accomplishment as though you have done something right to achieve the privilege to witness beauty. Many structures of the world carry beauty such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The bridge is bold and stout, its appearance is intimidating with its sheer size. I have been on, under and over the bridge. I assure you it has beauty. Another object is the General Sherman (the world's biggest tree) it is as bold as the Golden Gate is and it captivates tourists year-round. Both structures have captured my attention for many years and have also left everlasting memories that can be credited to their beauty. Long story short: Mother Nature is the epitome of beauty. Her imagination is so extravagant, the pictures she paints upon the landscapes inspire countless paintings a

The Demise of the Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs were a specific group of animals that lived in the Triassic era. They were reptiles that belonged to a subclass named archosaurs. Scientists describe the archosaurs as the class of ruling reptiles. The class also entails crocodiles and birds. The study of dinosaurs began in the 19th century where a group of scientists made the discovery of a large reptile that resembled a large lizard. Sir Richard Owen is the English paleontologist that came up with the name dinosaur. The term was derived after the paleontologist made the discovery that the animal belonged to a special reptile group that existed in the past. After the first discovery of the animal, numerous fossils of the reptile have been discovered in different parts of the globe. The fossils had different appearances but appeared to belong to one species. Mass extinction events have occured five times in the history of the earth. The first event took place during the final period of the Ordovician. The fossil record in

Two Kinds by Amy Tan: The Imagery of Two

Amy Tan's story, "Two Kinds," reveals conflicting values with a mother-daughter relationship running throughout the story. Conflicts occur owing to divergent opinions about identification. As a Chinese immigrant in America, Jing-Mei's mother puts her American dreams on the shoulder of her daughter. However, as an American born child, Jing-Mei does not want to live up to the expectations of her mother. This paper will examine what the title "two kinds" implies from different perspectives. "Only two kinds of daughters those who are obedient and those who follow their own mind! Only one kind of daughter can live in this house. Obedient daughter! "(Amy 495)The lines explains the most obvious meaning of two kinds: The child who is obedient and who is rebellious. Jing-Mei's mother wants the best for Jing-Mei and arranges everything for her. Nevertheless, in Jing-Mei's opinion, she thinks that her mother wants to use her to fulfill her American dream. The conflict of two opinions is i

Concepts of Conduct in Jane Eyre

This paper describes how Charlotte Bronte uses Jane Eyre as a conduct book to describe basic virtues that women should have and to criticize the marriage of convenience, declaring that only qualities of mind prove what a woman is really worth. Conduct books criticize the notion of female bodies as objects, tending to train women to be submissive so as not to dominate others through their appearance or body. It is through her mind that Jane Eyre, a governess who has no social status, no money, and little beauty, can become a woman that a man like Rochester would marry. Introduction In a marriage of convenience, people marry for money and social status with little concern for mutual affection. In modern marriages, mutual affection is usually more important than economic motives. That is, people are united by mutual affection rather than by economic need. In Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, a master and a governess are fashioned into an example of legitimate monogamy and in doing so Charlot

A Perfect Day for Bananafish by J.D. Salinger

"The Perfect Day for Bananafish," by J.D. Salinger, portrays the adult world as materialistic and artificial while glorifying the innocence of the world of a child. The story uses conversations of characters to present this idea, such as Muriel's shallow dialogue with her mother at the beginning of the story. Seymour Glass, the main character of the short story, is a soldier returned from fighting overseas in World War 2, who struggles between living in the adult world while having the innocence of an adolescent. Throughout the story, the adult characters fail to realize Mr. Glass is suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and his disconnection with the adult world leads him to commit suicide at the end of the story. Mr. Glass's suicide resembles the incompatibility of the child's world with what Salinger presents to be the superficial world for adults. Ultimately, Salinger's critique of the adult world is flawed because the only insights offered are straw man arguments projected through the characters. The story begins with Muriel and her

What Colin Kaepernick Forgot

San Francisco 49er's quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, has been the recipient of some not-so-great media attention. In case you've been living under a rock for the past couple of weeks, during the national anthem of a preseason NFL game last week, Kaepernick chose to remain seated rather than stand with the rest of the players and attendees. As you can imagine, he solicited quite a bit of retaliation from the public for this decision, being the target of comments such as he's a "disgrace to the men and women who lost their lives in war" to accusing him of "spitting on America." Kaepernick stated, "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder." Kaepernick chose to use the platform and fan-base he has been given to bring attention to a crucial and relevant issue in our country that he feels strongly about and has a credible perspective of. Conduct that, I feel,

Art Review - A Voluptuary Under the Horrors of Digestion

Art is subjective; everyone has different opinions on what constitutes a masterpiece. Some may find Van Gogh's "Starry Night" to be the epitome of a great artistic creation, while others may appreciate the innovative style of Picasso's "Guernica." No matter whether a person views art as garbage or as the holy grail, the purpose of art is to force people to become contemplative. Artists can bring out of people that which cannot be easily seen or felt. They can cause the observer to think about other people and their emotions, their environment, and the social issues that have arisen in the world. The most enduring issue of civilization is the unequal balance of power between the wealthy and the impoverished. The painting "A Voluptuary Under the Horrors of Digestion" serves as a satire on the upper class, displaying the contrast between French and British artists, exposing the faults of the nobility, and twisting public perception of the nobility. The greatest obstacle to art was censorship. The catastrophic nature of the French Revolution led to a wide-scale censorship of literature, art, and of the press in France.

Introduction Nathan Bedford Forrest was a businessman, a slave owner, a Confederate general, and the first grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Forrest is most known for his leadership and courage during the Civil War. Although some of Forrest's ideals may be considered absurd, he was a man with the utmost potential. Many have seen him as a war hero as he guided his battalion across an array of battles and skirmishes across both the Union and Confederate states. He was also accused of committing a rather controversial war crime. Today, many people still see him as a hero and a symbol of courage despite his political and social views (Davidson). Bravery One attribute that Nathan Bedford Forrest, Ambrose Burnside, Johnny Clem, and Kady Brownell had in common, was bravery. During his service, Forrest led his cavalrymen to what appeared to be certain death. He and his men were almost always successful in their endeavors. Information and Technology Literacy

According to Wisconsin's Model of Academic Standards, "Information and Technology Literacy is the ability of an individual, working independently or with others, to use tools, resources, processes, and systems responsibly to access and evaluate information in any medium, and to use that information to solve problems, communicate clearly, make informed decisions, and construct new knowledge, products, or systems." ("Wisconsin's model academic," 2000) Globally, we purchased 1.6 billion consumer electronics in 2011, up from 1.56 billion in 2010, according to market research firm iSupply. This doesn't account for any technological equipment or devices used in the medical field. This is evident in the way that nursing students are taught with endless amounts of information available in the palm of our hand. Instead of purchasing books, we purchase iPad's. We have access to libraries via our computers, and assignments are completed and submitted using the Internet. This type of

The Information Seeking Process produces a product of higher quality requiring higher order thinking skills (Riedling, Shake & Houston, 2013). It provides a shift from just learning library skills to learning information skills and information literacy. Durin

Climate Change and the Island of Mauritius

According to Singaporean experts, the island of Mauritius is far from being spared from the effects of climate change. To what extent is the star and key of the Indian Ocean safe from the wrath of nature? For a meteorologist, Prem Goolaup, the impact of climate change and recurrence of extreme weather conditions like the recent floods are a concern for the Mauritian authorities. "The climate of the island states in the South West Indian Ocean (SWIO) is influenced by the ocean-atmosphere interactions. They are affected by tropical cyclones and other extreme weather events. Some of them like St. Brandon or Agalega islands are threatened by rising sea level" he said. Among the many observed effects is the disruption of rainy season during summer. Although the duration of rainfall cycles decreased, heavy rainfalls caused flash flooding, especially during February and March. "The effects of climate change have also been felt on the agricu

America, Russia and the Cold War

The Cold War was a rivalry between America and Russia; it began after World War II and ended with the fall of the Soviet Union. During World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union fought as allies against the Axis powers. At the meeting in Yalta in 1945 the main Allied countries decided to control Germany jointly. Each country would be responsible for a certain area of Germany. The relationship between the US and Russia was a tense one. Americans had long been wary of Soviet communism and were concerned about the Russian leader, Joseph Stalin, who was a known tyrant in his own country. Postwar Soviet expansion in Eastern Europe shocked many Americans,' and they feared a Russian plan was in the works to control the world. This aggressive move was countered by the US establishing military bases and setting up other countries to be able to stop a possible attack. In 1947 Greece and Turkey were in the line of fire for a communist takeover, so US president Truman asked Congress f

Addictions and Offenders Counselors

The International Association of Addictions and Offender Counselors (IAAOC) best cultivates the growing and evolving professional identity of counselors in a variety of ways. This organization originally began as Public Offender Counselor Association in 1972, and only included addiction counseling in 1990, thereby reflecting a more precise picture of its members and scope (iaaco.org). It is indeed a well-versed and multi-faceted organization and one that which benefits the professional growth of one who becomes a member. The first way in which this organization will help to cultivate a counselor's ever growing professional identity is its diversity. This is organization of professional substance abuse counselors, corrections counselors, students and counselor educators (iaaoc.org). The members of this organization have a passion that orbits around the same goal, helping people who have addictive and criminal behavior, but who all approach this challenge from a different perspectiv

The High Price of College

Is it fair to charge one customer a higher price for the same product because they have more money? Most people would say no, just because they earn more money doesn't mean they should have to spend it. This is one of the reasons why it's not right to consider basing college tuition prices on income. It's true that determining what a student pays for college based on his/her family income, would flatten the financial playing field for those who want to obtain a degree. However, it would create budget issues, unfair pricing and a lack of student motivation. Therefore, college tuition prices should remain the same. 1. Setting college tuition prices differently for every person would create budget issues for many schools. 2. If colleges must make budget cuts it affects what classes or even school a student will choose. 3. Budget cuts have definitely put much more pressure on the registration process for all students," says Kalyani Phansalker, student at The College of William and Mary (Phansalkar). 4. Students don't need anymore stress than they already have, so worrying about the school won't do any good for them or their grades. 5. Without as

Organizational Behavior and Communication of GE

While an organization's espoused values (those values an organization may claim to have or uphold), may define a company among its competitors, it is the organization's enacted values (what a company actually does), that shows true value in the eyes of the consumer. For over 120 years, General Electric (GE) has provided services in technology from appliances to water treatment. I will briefly look into the culture and values of GE and see if what they say they value is actually done in the eyes of the public. How does communication play a role in this company's organizational culture and does it affect the perception of the company? Can conflict be used to improve the communication within this particular organization - and if so, how? These are the questions that I'll answer based on my research into the General Electric organization. The organizational culture of General Electric shows characteristics of being a people-oriented company. As stated by GE concerning their employees "We believe that life at GE leaves you a better person th

Stanton and the Declaration of Independence

In 1848, Elizabeth Cady Stanton gave her historic speech, "Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" at the Seneca Falls Convention for women's rights. Stanton, a formally educated and academically accomplished wife and mother, was already a prominent social activist who was deeply entrenched in the abolitionist movement. As a woman having experienced discrimination and the lack of opportunities to advance, she was weary of the constricted and oppressed lives women were forced to lead in comparison to the freedom and liberties enjoyed by men. In fact several years before, despite being elected as delegates, she and Lucretia Mott, a fellow abolitionist and suffragist, were denied the right to participate in the World Anti-Slavery Convention on the basis of their gender. By 1848, galvanized by disillusion, Stanton was ready to take a literal and figurative stand at the Seneca Falls Convention. There she delivered her speech, "Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions

Growing Threats to Homeland Security

The United States has always faced threats from other countries. But now, as times are changing, we're facing an increasing need to protect ourselves from terrorism within our own borders. In the 21st century, threats to America's internal security, that were once of minimal concern, have moved to the forefront...high priority. This recent development is due, in part, to the incredible strides science has made in the fields of technological, biological, and chemical warfare. These new concerns compromise the security of our nation, while the threats of classic warfare that have existed in the past still exist. The War on Terrorism has made terrorists abroad seek new ways to harm our country. Besides the fear of international terrorists, the threat from within in our country from anarchists and rebels is an equally legitimate concern. Although the War on Terrorism looks primarily at enemies abroad, many threats to our country's security are rising within our own borders. One form of d

Computer Game: World of Tanks

"World of Tanks" is a massive multiplayer online computer game. This historically accurate tank warfare game is played by sixty million gamer's worldwide. Each match consists of two teams, fifteen players per side, in a fifteen minute strategic fight to the death. There are six nations (US, Germany, USSR, UK, France, China), and each nation has four types of tanks (heavy, medium, light, and artillery). There are ten tiers (levels) for each type of tank - and as you play the game, you'll become familiar with all the tanks and their attributes. While there are so many aspects to pay attention to in game, I feel most of your focus as a new player should be on battle mechanics. The number one thing to keep in mind as a new player of World of Tanks is that there are no do-overs. If you die; you're done for that game and are rendered useless to your team. The system of battle mechanics includes several areas: positioning, shooting, and teamwork. You should spend time studying the complex sy
