Auschwitz was a death defying tragedy because of all the tests the Nazi's did to the prisoners, all the prisoners that were killed, and then it was over, it lasted a little over a year. The Nazi's invaded Hungary in 1944. The Nazi's did a lot of tests on a lot of the prisoners that were there. When the Nazi's invaded Hungary in September of 1944, the people who lived there were not frightened. The people didn't know what the Nazi's were going to do. The Nazi's shipped the prisoners by train. The largest single mass deportation was 437,402 Hungarian Jews deported to Auschwitz in 48 trains. This was only the beginning. At Auschwitz children were often killed upon arrival. Children that were born in the camp were mostly killed on the spot.
After an experimental gassing in September of 1941, mass murder became a daily routine.
Dr. Mengele often made experimental surgeries preformed with out anesthesia. Mengele tried transfusions of blood from one twin to another. Also Mengele tested the reaction to various stimuli, injections with lethal germs, and even sex change operations. Thousands of Jewish and Gypsy women were used in experiments performed by Professor Carl Clauberg.
Mengele also injected chemicals into the eyes of young children to try to change their eye color. The prisoners were not fed good either. The Nazi's did a lot of experiments to the prisoners.
