Identifying Ethical Differences in Cultures

             One's personal values and ethics are forever developing and changing based on experiences and situations. While this has been the case throughout my life, I have rarely taken the time to reflect on my personal values and ethics. During the last few weeks in my first University of Phoenix course, Managerial Communications and Ethics, I have had the opportunity to engage in insightful discussions with educated people that hold different beliefs and values. I have also had the opportunity to complete three ethical simulations. Each of these experiences has given me an opportunity to review and analyze my personal values. My thoughts about that process are discussed.
             Have you ever wanted to do something that everyone else is doing, but something in side you says, "No"? When you hold values and has ethical standards by which you live, it is as if there is a voice inside your head guiding you through life helping you to make the right choice. There have even been cartoons made about this exact scenario. You know, the one where a little devil figure is sitting on one shoulder encouraging the person to follow the crowd. While an angel figure is on the other side telling the person to be true to himself or herself. To me the angel represents your values and ethics, while the devil represents self doubt and sin.
             Values define who we are and how we respond to people and decisions. Even so, for the most part people go through life without really giving their values much thought. I know that values are something that I have had and yet not something that I have ever spent much time reflecting on until this class. I have found this process to be a very enlightening one. The last five weeks have been insightful and educational.
