             Imagine being stuck in the wilderness all alone, hundreds of miles away from civilization with no shelter and food. To make matters even worse his parent have recently gotten divorced. Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen is breathtaking story of a young man will to survive . The main character in this book is Brian Robeson. He is a smart thirteen year old kid from New York City. This story is about the struggles, Brian has to overcome to survive in the wilderness. The purpose of this book which is to entertain the reader through adventure made Hatchet an unforgettable book.
             Brian is very smart. He often finds a way to overcome his problems. Brian shows his intelligence when he has nothing to eat and figures out how to catch fish by imitating the technique that the bears used. He quickly adapts to the wilderness and finds a shelter which he temporarily stays in. When Brian is confronted by a moose he was very smart, because he stayed as still as possible, preventing further injury.
             This story is about struggles Brian has to overcome to survive in the wilderness. After Brian's parents get divorced, he takes a plane to visit his father in the summer. During the plane ride the pilot tells Brian he is having some pain in his upper body. At first, Brian doesn't think it's anything serious. Then all the sudden the pilot starts to have muscle spasms and becomes unconscious. Brian figures out that the pilot is having a heart attack. Brian is left to fly the plane alone, but luckily the pilot had let Brain control the plane a earlier so he had some experience flying the plane. Brian flies the plane, but begins panicking when the gas runs out. The plane crashes in a lake. Fortunately Brain survives. There he is stranded all alone hundreds of miles away from civilization not knowing if he is going to survive or not.
