Aristotle is an ancient Greek philosopher who lived from 384-322 B.C. His philosophical
theories set the standard for modern-day philosophy. He lived quite an interesting life, growing
up as a major part of the Macedonian Court. His outlook on life was quite diverse from other
great philosophers of his time. His unique lifestyle and vast knowldege of the Greek language
greatly influenced his writings and is what separated him from other writers of his time.

Aristotle was born in the year 384 B.C. at Stagirus, a Greek colony on the coast of
Thrace. His father Nichomachus was court physician to King Amyntas of Macedonia. Aristotle
was a major player in the Macedonian Court, which greatly influenced his life.

At the tender age of seventeen his guardian, Proxenus, sent him to Athens, Greece to better his
education. In Athens he attended hundreds of lectures by another great Greek philosopher, Plato
(Ross 17). Plato thought so highly of Aristotle that he eventually let him teach some of his
classes. However Aristotle's career at the Academy did not last very long because of the
diversity between his teachings and Plato's teachings. Aristotle lived quite an interesting life,
but his years grew short after getting diagnosed with a rare stomach illness (Barnes 57) . He later
passed away at Chalcis in the year 322 B.C..
It is reported that Theophrastus, one of Aristotle's students, possesed most of Aristotle's
writings (Adler 5). Theophrastus later handed the works to his pupil, Neleus. To protect them
from theft, Neleus kept the writings in a vault where most of the books were either greatly
