The movie Come and See, made in 1985 is the most depressing movie that I have ever seen in my entire life. Like the previous movie shown (The Cranes are Flying) it is also set during World War II. The move opens with two young boys no older then 15 digging threw the cold tundra of Belarus searching for rifles among the dead soldiers' bodies. The two boys are doing this because they want to fight for the Russian army which will allow just about anyone to fight just as long as they have their own rifle. The older and taller boy pulls a rifle from a dead soldier's cold grave and enlists into the army despite his mother's plead to stay at home with her and his twin sisters. That boys name is Florya. He is a simple country boy who decides to join because 'everyone else is' and he doesn't want to sit at home while his fellow country men are being slaughtered by the Germans.
The commander of his platoon, Kosach, takes a liking to the boy and decides to leave him behind at the base camp when he takes his other men out on the front because he doesn't want Florya to get hurt. The first night after the rest of the Platoon leave the Germans attack the base camp by air and every one is dead except him and a girl named Glasha. Florya now wishes to return home when he does find that his village had been wiped out and his mother and little sisters where now dead. He deeply regrets not listening to his mother and going off to war.
Through out the movie Florya is able to nearly escape death when nearly everyone around him is murdered. He quickly deteriorates, has nervous break downs and at the end emerges not as the young man that he is but as an old man beaten up by life.
The ending of the movie was the most tragic, the village that Florya stays at is controlled by the Germans and although the villagers do everything the Nazis commanded them to do they are placed into a barn (with the exc
