Group Diversity

             Organizations and groups, particularly in the business setting, have
             significant roles in influencing the kind of interaction and communication
             among its members. Groups, through its members, can create cultures that
             may be also the organization's business culture. However, it is not
             uncommon that diversity exists within the organization, where conflicts may
             develop as a result of individual differences. Individual differences may
             be in terms of values, attitudes, and even behavior towards a particular
             event, issue, or interaction that may be incompatible between two or more
             members. Within a group, individual differences affect the group's
             sentiment especially when it comes to decision-making activities, since one
             member's opinion may contradict another member's opinion, which are
             commonly based on the individual's values and beliefs. Thus, due to
             individual differences, i.e., group diversity, group interaction is
             affected, thereby illustrating conflicting or contradicting sentiments.
             Similarly, varying sentiments within a group have a powerful impact
             in influencing and determining member interaction and communication. Take
             as an example, a culturally-diverse group, where values and behavior among
             the members are conflicting with one another. During a decision-making
             process, a dominant or aggressive member may assert his/her opinion, and
             this assertion may be contradicted by another member (who is also
             characteristically aggressive) or accepted by a member who is either
             subservient or seeks harmonious group relations. Contradicting views may
             result to conflicts that can be detrimental to the group's performance in
