within the mobile cell phone market taken from a consumer survey conducted
in August of 2003. The results of this survey show that more than 73% of
homes use a mobile phone and at least 85% of households at minimum have a
mobile phone (Oftel, 2003). In addition the report revealed that 6% of
homes were using a mobile phone as their only source of telephone (Oftel,

trend indicates that the supply for mobile phone on average has increased
almost 50% in the last 5 years. The study also reveals an interest from
consumers expressed for service that will block calls from withheld' or
restricted numbers, suggesting that developments in this area will lead to
increased demand in times. At this time there was no indication that there
was an adequate supply to meet this demand in the market population
Initially an increase in mobile phone penetration was emphasized
between Nov. 02 and May of '03 (Otel, 2003). Growth of mobile phones has
increased from 33% in January of 1999 to 85% in 03, suggesting that overall
consumer demand is rising. The supply within the UK market has as of August
of 2003 when the study was conducted successfully met the needs of the
increased demand the consumers have placed on the market.
Consumers have many different mobile options to choose from. A
majority of households own a minimum of one phone, but usually households
have more than one, suggesting that the price of mobile telephone products
is by and large considered reasonable for most consumers.
