Taking a Position

             One situation in my life where I took a position had placed my job at risk. I was a working student then, working as service crew/cashier in one of the leading fast food chains worldwide. The chain has a strict policy on storage and preservation of foods in an objective of looking after the welfare of their customers' health. One policy of the chain is to throw to garbage all cooked foods that were not consumed at the end of the day. This includes burgers, chicken, and potato fries. Even the employees of the chain are not allowed to bring home and eat unconsumed foods. If someone violates this, the result will be an immediate termination from job. As a working student, who has the responsibility of taking care of all my expenses for my schooling, I obey this rule in fear of losing my job. It is the only means where I draw money for my study, hence I cannot afford to lose it. One day, however, I caught a co-worker who secretly brings home unconsumed foods. Upon discovering this, I didn't know what to do next. I asked myself if I will tell my manager about it or if I will just pretend I didn't discover anything. The next day, after work, I decided to talk to this co-worker who was bringing home unconsumed foods. From our conversation, I realized that he was doing it for his family who most of the time had nothing to eat. I pitied him for being in that situation. However, in fear for him losing his job, I tried to explain the consequences of what he was doing. I told him that in the end, the situation might be worse for him and his family if he gets caught and terminated from job. Fortunately, he realized this possible consequence and soon stopped bringing home unconsumed foods.
             I took the position of convincing my co-worker to stop violating the food chain's policy
