My major is criminal justice and it is a major that will have a significant impact on my future career goal to work as a detective in homeland security. I have always had an interest in law enforcement and following the events of 9-11 that interest not only sharpened it focused itself on investigations. I am interested in being a detective and working with my local homeland security office.
The job duties of a detective or investigator include conducting investigations to solve crimes that have been committed. In homeland security it will be to investigate any crimes that have been committed against this country's security.
Elements of the job will include examining crime scenes for the purpose of gathering evidence and clues about what may have happened.
I will be expected to maintain records and notes about the progress of my investigations. These reports and notes may include files on potential suspects, reports or requests for warrants and other information that will assist in the delivery of solving a crime(My Career

Part of my position will include reviewing government files and documents to ascertain information about suspects. This can include past arrest records, past investigations or past prison records of any person we consider a suspect.
I will be expected at times to testify in court about the cases I have solved and will be asked to question suspects as they are brought in for questioning following a homeland security event or actual crime.
I will also interview victims and witnesses.
