My career will bring me into day-to-day contact with people.i¿½ It will be necessary to build rapport and to understand different elements of human behavior.i¿½Understanding certain patterns of behavior, or theories behind behavior will make me better able to deal with subjects who have occupational issues ori¿½who present a behavioral conundrum.i¿½ I would use a combination the different theories of behavior o meet the needs of my clients, both as a practitioner and as a fellow human being.i¿½i¿½ Each theorist has something I can bring to the table.i¿½ I do not think it possible to subscribe to any one school of thought, but rather choose as the situation proves necessary.i¿½ In this paper, I will briefly describe the elements I feel germane from some behavioral theorists and then describe not only how I would use them in my work, but also how I have used them in my life.i¿½
The teachings of Freud would help me deal with individuals who perhaps function on an earlier level of development or exhibit anger or more primitive behaviors.i¿½ Many of Freud's theories deal with reaction to stress, anxiety and tension i¿½feelings which can all be common to the workplace. i¿½Freud uses the example of the Ego as the self which must handle conflict which occurs between the Id, the Ego and the Super ego.i¿½ According to Freud, these three parts of the mind are three different levels of personality, and the subject may not even be aware of some of them.i¿½ The way an individual feels, thinks and behaves can be attributed to conflict from the interaction between the three.i¿½ The conflict breeds anxiety, and the anxiety causes the patient to develop defense mechanisms, that is, problem solving or ways to escape the situation.i¿½ According to Freud, the Id is the part of us that is the most primitive, and is primarily concerned with seeking pleasure and avoiding pain.i¿½ In contrast, the Ego is aware and understan...
