Assessment of Croquet Project as a Knowledge Management System

             Content management in many organizations tends to be chaotically managed and often comprised of multiple islands of data, databases disconnected from each other, with silos of data in each department or division. As product lifecycles get increasingly faster, and competition becomes increasingly global in nature, organizations need to capitalize on all available data available to remain viable and profitable. Enterprise content management (ECM) and Knowledge Based Management Systems (KBMS) have increased in use as companies confront the need to create a single system of record throughout their organizations. This single system of record, often called Master Data Management (MDM) is becoming the foundation for managing content enterprise-wide, becoming an integral part of ECM and KBMS systems. The next logical step in this progression of system development is the visualized of complex interrelationships within data sets, surpassing the graphical interfaces of existing analytics applications. The development of the Croquet Project, a virtual reality development environment that simplifies complex data and learning concepts, shows significant potential in academic and commercial uses (Breeding, 2005).
             Croquet Project as a Knowledge-Based Management System
             As the majority of early adopters of this development environment are educators, the applicability of the Croquet project for scaffolding and the tailoring of individualized learning systems are being demonstrated today. Additional research is needed to empirically verify that the use of Croquet-based learning environments is equally effective in online-only courses and when used as a teaching aid in in-class taught sessions as well. Math and science courses that require analytical thinking and sustained concentrated such as calculus, geometry, and statistics would all benefit from having course supplemental lessons developed in the Croquet environment.
