Unit Objective #1: The students will be able to identify 25 different animals and determine rather they live in the ocean, in the jungle, or a farm, in the desert, or with people as pets.(5 animals per habitat)
Unit Objective #2: The students will learn and enhance their reading, math, and writing skills within the context of the animal lessons.
Unit Objective #3: The student will learn about and respect the animal world.
Unit Objective #4: The students will be able to visit the zoo to see and learn about different animals first hand.
Activity #1: (Technology Incorporated) Students will watch a movie about animals and where they live. The movie is "National Geographic's Animals and their Habitats". (30 minutes)
Activity #1: (Note Taking) Students will color and cut out flash cards of the 25 different animals. The teacher will have a list of animal names on the board, and on the back of each card the student will write which animal is on the front. (30 Minutes)
Activity #2: (Graphic Aid) The student will color habitat worksheets. The worksheets will be a background of the different habitats. For example, there will be an ocean scene, a farm yard, a jungle scene, a desert scene, and a house. At the top of the worksheet, the student will write the name of the habitat. (10 minutes)
Activity #3: (Cooperative Learning) The students will work in groups of two to determine which animal lives in each habitat. The student will quiz their partner with the flash cards and ask them to place the flash card on the correct habitat. (15 minutes)
Activity #4: (Memory Strategy) The day will begin by a game of animal charades. The teacher will begin by acting like an animal. The students will raise their hands to guess which animal the teacher is acting. The teacher will call on a student and if the student guesses correctly, the student gets a turn to act out an animal.
