Contrast: The O.C. and Gossip Girl

             Buscaglia. On the contrary to the realists, some people love the escapism
             of living as a recluse, slipping into another character for a little while.
             Both "The O.C." and " Gossip Girl" give an account of the tale that happens
             among a group of high school students with various personalities, including
             Seth Cohen and Dan Humphrey. If Seth Cohen and Dan Humphrey were to attend
             the same high school, they would not be friends.
             Seth Cohen and Dan Humphrey have different personalities and different ways
             of act. Despite living under an affluent family, Seth acts as an escapist
             who always resists, or escapes from the reality subconsciously, hoping
             thereby to come to some form of freedom. When he goes out sailing with
             Ryan, he tells Ryan that he is planning on a trip to Tahiti, a scenic
             island which is far from where he lives. He plans to live along the sea by
             himself, catching fish and roast them to eat. He emphasizes that he hopes
             to be in a place that is "totally quiet". The paradox is that there is a
             polarity between the lifestyle that Seth is looking forward to and his
             present situation. Living in a big roaring society, Seth never shows his
             dissatisfaction directly, however, his inmost wish is to find a "totally
             quiet" place to live in as a means of evading. Also, Tahiti is described as
             "the closest place to heaven". Heaven is considered the most holy and quiet
             place in the world, the search for heaven also hints about Seth's
             willingness of getting rid of his current situation.
             In contrast, Dan takes the role of protector of his younger sister, Jenny.
