Islam Faith Around the World

             The word Islam means submission to God. The religion of Islam can be found throughout the world. The people who follow the Islamic faith are known as Muslims. Islam was developed in the Middle East through the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. Muslims believe that Allah is the creator and sustainer of the world. The holy book of the Islamic faith is called the Quran. The Quran contains teachings of the Prophet Muhammad that were given to him by Allah (Islam, n.d.). Muslims believe that Allah is the one true God and there is no God but Him. The Muslims believe that only those who believe in Allah can enter into heaven. The only sure way to enter heaven is if a Muslim dies in a Sihad or holy war. This explains why so many Muslims are willing to give their lives in terrorism acts (Let Us Reason Ministries Islam, 2009). Muslims believe that each person is born pure and given the power to choose between right and wrong.
             A mosque is the holy place of worship for the Islamic faith. The Five Pillars play an important role in the practice of Islam. The Five Pillars include: Testimony or Shahada stating "I bear witness there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah", Prayer or Salat occurring five times a day with them face-down on their knees pointed towards Mecca, Charity or Zakat involves giving 2.5% of their wealth to the community, Fasting or Sawn requires no eating or drinking from sunrise to sunset during the month of Ramadan, and Pilgrimage or Hajji requiring Muslims to make a pilgrimage to Mecca once in one's lifetime (Islam, n.d.). Muslims are required to focus all aspects of their life to serving Allah. Islam is a very strict and ritualized religion that has expanded well beyond its birthplace.
