Language is the best tool we posse that no other animal has. It gives us the ability to describe our thoughts, emotions, and ideas. But it can also be used as weapon. Over the course of time we have grown by changing everything around us including our communication. "Language builds culture and society as well as providing the means for survival"(Lutz, 1996, p.5). The survival instinct is in all creatures, but so is the potential risk of extinction as well. To share language with a group of people is a great advantage; thoughts, ideas, perspectives and emotions all build to stability. Orwell's reflection on language was "an instrument for expressing and not for concealing or preventing thought" (Orwell, 1946, p.9). If we didn't communicate we wouldn't know to help each other. If we didn't use our voice to express our thoughts, all material objects wouldn't exist. Man might have not been able to survive the ice age; because without survival and expression, progress wouldn't be attainable.
Putting thought into how language has been changed and molded to our own purposes makes me believe that these authors weren't wrong in their beliefs. He gives examples such as the use of jargon and ideas such as Fascism and democracy in statements that are nothing unique or thought provoking to readers. He also describes these words as being used in variable meanings with dishonesty. This abuse of language is closely related t
