Erin Brockovich: Hard Work and Determination

             Organizations that operate under a bureaucracy is supposed to be productively efficient. (Weber, 2012) states that organizations should take into consideration the seven theories/ principles of bureaucracy in order to grasp success towards its employees and itself. Devito, Shamberg, Sher, Lyon and Hardy, (2000) presents the movie "Erin Brockovich" of which it showcases one of the seven theories of bureaucracy; the separation of personal life and work, to illustrate the message of what the producers are trying to convey. Challengers to this view would argue that this principle does not help whatsoever in portraying the overall message of the film because the message is common sense. However, with the indication of the suggested theory evident in the movie, it is therefore arguable that the separation of personal life and work theory of bureaucracy does help portray the overall message of the film.
             This essay will be categorized into four main categories of which the last will also be the conclusion. Firstly, to illustrate the overall message of the piece, secondly, to show how the theory is being used in illustrating the message of the piece, furthermore to exemplify the application of theory in practice and in popular culture and lastly will be thoughts on how I would apply the principle of separation of personal life and work differently.
             In the movie, there is a scene in which Erin Brockovich compares fighting the PG&E Company to David fighting Goliath. Erin is an ordinary working-class divorced mother taking care of 3 kids since being divorced twice. The character of Erin is a modern day David. A woman who wasn't very powerful who took down a giant corporation through hard work, persistent investigation, and her determination to make an malevolent, corrupt, giant corporation pay for their faults. It came to the conclusion where she had splintered open the PG&E's cranium and were forced to pay $333 million...
