?Every culture follows certain norms that are understood in terms of it's place in its cultural context. There have always been accepted ways of doing or carrying out ideas socially. This makes people status conscious. But many in our open-minded, young generation don't believe in sticking to what was previously established as the "norm". We tend to go with our own experiences and responses. For example, human sexuality always had an impact of social, cultural and philosophical aspects of life. But many in our generation believe sexuality as only driven by mental activity. One such example is the rise of Herbivore Men or "grass eating men" in Japan. These are men who do not want to marry or have a girlfriend.
In this age of bromance and metrosexuals, these men have found their place as metrosexuals but are not interested in sex. Some people in Japan panic over this because it could be a contributor to declining birth rates. The term Herbivore Men was coined in by Maki Fukasawa. According to him, these are men who do not seek to eat meat but prefer to eat grass side by side with the opposite gender. Most of the men who tend to be herbivores are the age group from early 20's to early 30's. Many social and economic factors can be behind this. I think the main reason for this is that today's lifestyle results to the lack of socialization for new generation. It is the basic thing for them to learn their values and beliefs of a social group and their own place in that society. Agents of socialization like family, peers, schools and sports are important for such development. Absence of these attributes to their poor communication skills. Thus, they become shy and spend more time alone. This hinders them in discovering their manhood.
