             The Octoroon and The Cherry Orchard may have the same themes however, they differ in many ways. The themes of love are different in their own ways. Also, both plots have to do with properties being sold. However they are led to the verge of selling in different ways.
             In The Octoroon, George is in love with Zoe, despite the fact that she is an octoroon. However, Zoe refuses to marry George even though she reciprocates her feelings for him, because she does not want to risk getting caught breaking the law. He tries to persuade her that he could take her to another country; she rejects the offer because she needs to be there for Terrebonne. So George decides to go ahead and marry Dora because of her wealth. This is significant because it was figured that she would be able to buy Terrebonne and the slaves would not separate. However, instead of proposing to Dora, he confessed his love for Zoe.
             In The Cherry Orchard, The theme of love pertains to many people unlike just 3 in the Octoroon. Trophimof and Anya is one romance. Another one consists of Barbara and Lopakhin. The last romance is a love triangle between Dunyasha, Yasha, and Epikhodof. Lopakhin never proposes to Barbara, Dunyasha prefers to be with yasha, but she ends up devastated because he decides to leave for France with madam Ranevsky.
             The theme of love is different in both plays because unlike in the Octoroon, things don't work out for Lopakhin because he never really seizes the opportunity to be with Barbara. Things don't work out for Dunyasha because Yasha prefers to go away with Madam Ranevsky. In Octoroon, George doesn't end up with Zoe because she cares too much about the Terrebonne, it was also too big of a risk to break the law. So unlike in The Cherry Orchard, the relationship between George and Zoe was never meant to be due to outside circumstances.
