Facebook, Relationships and Divorce

             Facebook is a very common way of communication. It serves multiple purposes, whether it is to talk with family and friends, make new friends, or even as a dating service. Facebook serves many different purposes. Since the twenty first century, social networking has increased exponentially and has brought up many great and not so great issues. One negative topic is that Facebook is consistently in the media. Facebook is shown as a negative sign in the media because "Facebook causes 1 in 5 divorces"(Bialik 2011). So while Facebook continues to grow into a multi-billion dollar company, it is really causing many young children and beloved couples to separate in divorce?
             There are three reasons for this immense industry to tear apart a relationship and cause the divorce rate to increase. Facebook makes it easy to meet other people, it promotes getting reacquainted with people from the past, and it leads to rekindling feelings from past relationships.
             When thinking of social networking, one thinks about expanding your network and connecting with people. Facebook makes it easy to meet new people because it is easily accessible to add friends of friends and search for people by name, company, or even where they live.
             Facebook is one of the most popular social networks. Billions of users are on Facebook and yet the networking site continues to grow rapidly. Meeting new people every day can lead to jealously within married couples. For example, the husband might add a pretty single girl on Facebook. The wife then looking at his profile will see he has added her and will ask her husband "why did you add her on Facebook?" The wife doesn't know who the woman is so her jealousy would lead to an argument. When even adding co-workers, the other spouse does not know the person, jealously can arise.
