We as people have the competitive nature in sports, often taught to us in early childhood. The real question is when have we gone too far? The use of steroids to help ones athletic performance is at an all-time high. Athletes feel the demand to be the best and are taking what steps they believe are necessary to stay competitive. "If winning is everything, and if we are taught that only winning counts, we only encourage teen, college, and professional athletes to bend or break the rules and search for new drugs that won't be detected by doping test" (Yesalis, Cowart 1). As athletes compete for excellence in sports, so does the use of steroids in athletes. Steroid usage in athletes is a controversial issue, with much debate over the harmful effects. Although there is much controversy, steroid testing should be mandatory. All sports organizations should test for performance enhancing drugs. They place athletes at an unfair advantage. It also places the users at risk with their health.
