By The Great Horn Spoon, A Book Report

             This story is about two people that go to the gold rush in California. Praiseworthy, a butler and Jack, the butler's master (Jack is only 12) set off on an adventure from Boston to San Francisco. Other characters are Jack's Aunt Arabella, Jack's sisters, Constance and Sarah, Cut eye Higgins,
             Pitch Pine Billy, Mountain Jim, Captain Swain, Lucky (Jack's favorite pig), and Mountain Ox.
             Stowaways
             Jack and Praiseworthy are stowaways because their money was stolen by Cut Eye Higgins. They hid in the potato barrels in the cargo area and didn't want the captain to find them. Eventually Praiseworthy went up to the Captain's quarters to confess. When Praiseworthy confessed, the captain
             gave Praiseworthy and Jack the job to work in the coal bunkers. Praiseworthy proved that Cut Eye Higgins stole the money so the Captain made Higgins go to the coal bunkers. Praiseworthy and Jack were able to go to their bunkers.
             The Chase for Good Luck
             Jack became fond with his pig and named him Good Luck. A chase started because the chef wanted the pig to eat. Everybody but Jack and Praiseworthy wanted the pig. Jack had to run with the pig and keep it quiet. When Jack saw a person that wanted Good Luck he hid it in a barrel under Mountain Jim. When Jack went to sleep with the pig, Higgins stole the pig and went sailing off into the ocean. When Jack woke up he couldn't find Good Luck and looked all over the ship. Jack was happy when he realized Good Luck had made it to Rio de Janeiro in a small ship with Higgins, so he was safe from being eaten.
             Hardships in San Francisco
             After a long and rough trip through the Straits of Magellan, Jack and Praiseworthy got off the ship in San Francisco flat broke. Jack and Praiseworthy solved this by cutting miners' hair to get the gold dust out of their hair. They came up with this idea when they cut Quartz Jac
