Target and UPS

Did you know that United Postal Service, better known as (UPS) delivers 15 million packages a day to 6.1 million customers in more than 200 Countries and territories around the world?[1][2][3]Did you know that UPS ships all of Target's online purchases...probably not? In the seven years I've been out of high school I have worked two jobs; one of which is Target the other UPS. Target and UPS are almost on different ends of the spectrum when it comes to job duties. UPS is a postal service while Target is a department store. Over the past five years I have learned that there are many more positives from working at UPS than there are from working at Target. Job essentials, public interaction, and the perks of the job are three reasons why I would rather work at UPS than Target.
One reason I prefer UPS over Target is because of the job essentials. At UPS I get paid more to work less. UPS is a part time job, and upon hiring I was making over minimum wage. I also receive bi-annual raises. I have a set schedule working five days a week Sunday through Thursday starting at 11:00 am and ending at or around 4:00 pm. My end time at work depends on how much volume that has to be run on that particular day. Since UPS is a union represented job, I was eligible for full coverage health care after 30 days of hire. My health care includes Medical, Dental and Optical. Job essentials at Target, on the other hand are not the best.
Target started me out at minimum wage with little opportunity to receive a raise. One of two raises that I received in the two years of my service was $.12. This was due to the overnight deferential that I got paid for working nights. The other raise was another deferential when corporate stopped paying for lunches. My schedule for Target was sporadic. One week I would be working two days a week, but the next week might be five. The sporadic scheduling made it hard to plan a vacation, outing or just a simple get toge...
