i. Haute Bourgeeoisie refers to the upper middle class. Albert Speer was born on 19 March 1905 in Mannhein, the son of prosperous upper middle-class family of master builders – his father was one of the busiest architects in the city.?Speer was educated at the Institute of Technology in Karlsruhe, completing his architectural studies in Munich and Berlin. It was at Berlin University that he first heard Hitler speak in 1930 and came under his hypnotic spell. In January 1931 he became a member of the National Socialist Party, denying, as he subsequently put in his memoirs, "my own past, my upper-middle-class origins and my previous environment.
ii. Having a father who was a successful architect in Mannheim, and a mother who came from a wealthy family you would say that the Speer family was more than well off. Albert Speer was the upper class instead of the upper-middle which he classified himself into. But too all-good things there are bad. Not liking his brothers, he would get picked on by them. Albert's relationship with his parents was poor and had conjured in his mind that they didn't have anytime for him at all or even loved him, but that his governess had shown him more affection towards him. Wanting to become a mathematician Albert was forced to follow his father's footsteps and become and architect.
iii. Albert was never allowed to interact with any other children that weren't in the upper class. He was never allowed to play in parks or even on the streets. Speer would later remark that the educational upbringing in the 20s emphasized uncritical acceptance of authority and formed the basis for an easily manipulated society. The Speer family had their own cook, kitchen maid, chamber maid, butler, chauffer, nanny and governess. As a child Albert was nervous, fainted often and had common spells of breathlessness in contrast to his confident and brash brothers.
