The War on Marijuana

             ?Did you know tobacco use killed an estimated 443,000 people and another 8.6 million live with a serious illness caused by smoking tobacco products? Also, the abuse of alcohol kills an estimated 75,000 people each year? Alcohol and tobacco making the top 5 reasons people died in the U.S. Since the beginning of time not one person has ever overdosed on marijuana. Even though there is an estimate of 25 million regular users. Still it is viewed in the America as one of biggest fights in the drug war that we are having. But legalizing marijuana can help more than the government thinks. It will help clear the prison of space from inmates, help our economy, and Medicinal use.
             The United States has more people in jail than any other country including China that has a population that is 4 times bigger than us. Of the people in jail half of them are in there for repeat drug use of marijuana. Every year about one million people are arrested and sent to jail for having or selling marijuana. Last year, police arrested 847,864 people for marijuana violation, of the 847,864 people 90 percent of them were arrested for possession only. Prisons are becoming over crowd and criminal who rape, abused and child predators are being set free or given probation because of the overcrowded prisons. A solution to fix the prison space is to decriminalize marijuana. If united stated do so they would be able to be free space for real criminals who have done worse and should be punished by serving time in prison. Right now 11 million people are in prison for just marijuana chargers. A negative solution is how you would decriminalize it. Would marijuana be treated like alcohol and only adult 21 and older will be able to buy it? Or would they treat it like tobacco when people ages 18 and up are allowed to buy it.
