Every day, America is becoming a more violent place. It has gotten to the point where innocent people are attacked for even a small amount of money, young girls are aggressively assaulted and raped, and innocent people are shot because of criminals killing each other over simple disputes. These criminals are extremely detrimental to our society and are oppressing innocent people who have to fear for their life everyday. America began because citizens were fed up with being oppressed. Ever since Americas beginnings citizens have always had to protect ourselves against our oppressors. However, some people want high regulations on guns thinking that it will lower the number of gun crimes committed in the United States. These positions are noble however, it is necessary to realize that being able to defend yourself is a right that has been set in stone since this country was founded and even if guns were removed criminals would still get them and still create havoc in this nation.
One has to review the history of America, and the role guns have played in building this country. The second amendment in the Constitution of the United States makes owning a gun a right. The reason the founding fathers put this in the constitution was because we used firearms to protect ourselves from oppression from the most dominant military force of the time, Great Britain. The founding fathers knew that a population of responsible gun owners were key to fighting off oppression and keeping the colonists safe.
It is important to be rational and realize that since then many things have changed and therefore, the reasons to own a gun has changed.
