I am writing to appeal my suspension from the OCEN program in the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering. I was very upset to receive a letter this summer informing me of my dismissal but did not receive the letter until a week ago because I am currently working on a summer internship as an engineering assistant in Louisiana. I blame nobody but myself for my failures and take full responsibility for my poor academic performance. I would strongly urge you to reinstate me for the next semester.
             I do not like to make excuses for my poor academic performance but I would like to explain the circumstances. I am currently going into my fifth year at Texas A&M University and know that my academic performance does not match the best of my abilities. I do not blame anyone but myself and could have handled my situation a lot differently. During last spring semester, I was overwhelmed by applying and interviewing for a summer internship and it affected my academic performance. This was my first time applying for working experience in the engineering field and it lead to high stress levels and poor health. I became overwhelmed and got distracted from consistently taking my medication for my ADHD. The high stress levels lead to frequent anxiety and panic attacks on my tests which affected my performance in my dynamics class. I fell behind in my dynamics class and found myself having to consistently catch up. I understand now that I should have communicated with my professors instead of avoiding them.
             I landed a summer internship towards the end of the semester with Tervita Corporation as an engineering assistant and it has given me direct experience in the oil field and has greatly aided my time management, preparation, and my communication skills. It has helped me learn not to be afraid to ask questions and get help when I need it. It has also given me the time to boost my health and control my anxiety through my medication.
