             School closings have always been a very contentious issue, fraught with suspicions and doubt; especially from those stakeholders who would be directly impacted by such closures.
             This past school year, NYC attempted to close 33 struggling schools. This policy decision generated widespread stakeholder opposition, and was not implemented as planned due to that opposition.
             The DOE's has established a department to overseer the necessary changes to their schools. The Portfolio and Planning Department is charged with this responsibility.
