Modest Proposal

             A Modest Proposal for decreasing high school student truancy.
             It is not surprising to walk into a regular high school classroom and observe several chair seats are standing algid and vacant. It is a rising concern for parents about their children's high school attendance, or more precisely their children's lack of attendance numbers.
             After judicious assessment I have come to a realization that a lot of students miss classes due to early starting hours, failure to prepare for classes and compliant policies. There is a solution to eliminate if not all, then decidedly most problems that produce high student absences. I propose a regular day high school be re-scheduled to run at a later, more convenient time, from one o'clock in the evening until eight at night.
             For those who are questioning obligatory leisure as well as homework time, be certain there are a number of choices. When students complete their studies by eight at night there is a given opportunity for them to start their assignments before heading to bed. Another given time for students to complete their assigned work is in the morning; as well it will leave a window of opportunity to repeat studied information for any upcoming test. Surely, students will decide on their own which hours are for amusement purposes.
             Re-scheduling school hours will decrease student tardiness since the hours are at a later time during the day. Students will be more energized and enthusiastic at school since they will not be lacking either sleep or food. According to CTV "Canada and Iceland came in fifth on the OECD's list, with truancy rates of 26 per cent," without doubt those numbers will start to diminish if school hours become more convenient but chastisement for absences become more severe.
