The green mile

             In the novel The Green Mile by Stephen King. The main character is Paul Edgecomb the head master of the prison. Paul grew and changed over the time that he came to know John Coffey. In this time Paul changed his outlook on life and got a little magical piece of John Coffey along the way.
             Paul Edgecomb as a character has many traits, such as he is a very caring person not only to John Coffey but also to his wife, friends and co-workers. He is also very fair to everybody, he treats all of his prisoners and co-workers equally not letting one get away with more than another. Paul is also very respected person, all of his co-workers and prisoners look up to Paul and listen to him that is except Percy but even Percy learns that he has to listen to Paul because Paul is his boss. Paul is also very determined character, he always wants and trys to do the right thing for anybody. Paul always gave people a chance and listened to what they had to say, he was never mean or unfair unless they deserved it, such as Wild Bill getting thrown in solitary confinement this was only because he always did something to make someone mad. Paul also shows his kindness, when John says " boss don't let him put that thing on my head remember I'm afraid of the dark" Paul lets them leave it off during his execution.
             When Paul was younger he was head of executions but as he came to know and executed John Coffey he ended up quitting his job and going to work in a boys home. Since Paul got a little piece of John, he aged very slowly and had to watch those he loved die. As Paul got older and wiser he learned that not all things in life are explainable.
             Paul has some very kind actions in the novel The Green Mile. His most valued action was when he risk's his job, to help Hal's wife who has a brain tumor, He lets John help her get well.
