Stand By Me

             The film 'Stand By Me' is an adventure story about 4 twelve year old boys going on a journey to find a dead body. Along the journey, the boys encounter many problems and difficult situations. Within these situations, they had to make many crucial decisions. In the film, there are four main characters. They are Gordy Lachance, Chris Chambers, Teddy Duchamp, and Vern Tession whom which are all in the same gang. There is also a rival gang in the film. The story is set in the 1950's in a small town called Castle Rock. A boy by the name of Vern Tession was digging up his money when he overheard his elder brother, Billy, disclosing the whereabouts of a dead body. Having heard the news, Vern eagerly left to tell his friends about the body. Chris, Gordy and Teddy were so amazed about the news that they decided to take the chance and find the dead body themselves so that they would become famous and be on television.
             The coda and main themes of the film reflects on the four boys sticking together even when the times get tough. Some of the main themes in the story are friendship, growing up, maturity and loyalty. All the boys go have a different personality and rough background. But through the journey they go on, they realize that their friendship was the most precious thing gift they had. This evident during the ending scene where Gordon typed, 'I never had any friends like on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anybody?' on his computer. Also the friendship showed when they were on the train tracks when the train was coming and Vern fell down and with Gordy being a good friend, helped him up and jumped off the tracks just in time. Growing-up and going through adulthood is another theme in which is included within their journey.
