De Tocqueville

The characters of a nation depend on the people's parents and what they bring to the new society. The De Tocqueville essay dealt with America and the natural and tranquil growth of society. Emigrants came from over Europe to America to seek freedom and have a new shot at starting a new life. The people that came to America started a new development of complete democracy. They had no intentions of ruling over one another. The people of high rank were driven to America by political and religious quarrels. All of the emigrants that came over to America spoke the same language, English. They had no other desire to speak a different language.
In the new America, they established two different groups, the north, and the south. Slavery was a big part of the southern states. Slavery dishonored labor and makes people become lazy. The people who lived in the North had a greater mass of intelligence. They had a better education and many of them were known throughout Europe for their talents.
The land was naturally broken up into smaller portions for the people. Virginia received the first English colony. The men sent to Virginia, their main priority was to search for gold. The men sent to the New England were all very much intelligent and lived in a good society. These men brought the best elements of order and morality. They hadn't been forced to leave their country. They set off of their own ambitions of having a better life.
Puritanism dealt with the republican and democratic theories. People that lived in the New England area could worship God in freedom and live by their own opinions. Puritanism continued in the middle classes and from the middle classes was where most of the emigrants came from. The population increased greatly. A democracy formed the country and took away with the old feudal society.
