There were three causes of the French Revolution. The dividing of the three estates contributed to discontent felt by many French people; mostly the third estate. The ideas of the Enlightenment brought new views of government and society. The American Revolution also influenced the coming of the French Revolution.
According to document two, the article states that the third estate was treated less fairly than any other two estates. The third estate contributed mostly of unwealthy people and the middle-class. Document two describes how the third estate had a less percentage of land than the other two estates, which were the Clergy and the Nobles. This was an example of France's weak monarchy. Louis XVI who was the ruler at the time also had a role on France's weak monarchy. During the time of the French Revolution, Louis XVI spent money than he really had, which was also called deficit spending. This time was a rough time for the French people, so this helped cause a Revolution.
In document four, the third cause of the French Revolution was the Enlightenment. Document four claims that the leadership fell to the middle class with their knowledge of the ideas of the Enlightenment. This angered the middle class and helped cause a Revolution to break out. The Decleration of Independence was based on the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment, which was supported on ideas of famous philosophers, tells how to help society and the government. Many of these ideas were supported by people such as Montesquie; the separation of powers, John Locke; life and liberty, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who believed in the Social Contract.
