Trifles-Character Sketch ¡V Minnie Wright

             Mrs. Minnie Wright was suggested as the murderer in the play Trifles although the action of the murder, nor Minnie and John were ever seen in the play. She was guilty in men¡s view while innocent in ladies¡. She did not live in a very cheerful place. From the beginning of the play, we understood in Hale¡s words, she was the wife of an ignorant man, John Wright. Hale then introduced her name Mrs. Wright. Hale is also the one who first suggested Minnie was the main suspect of the murder, as he described her actions in some sort of nervousness using words like ¡§pleating at her apron¡ and ¡§queer¡. Minnie acted as if she didn¡t know what have happened and tried to calmly pretend she was innocent. She also laughed at Hale about having a telephone in the house. A heavy load of descriptions about the kitchen are presented throughout the story; which the author wanted the readers to really picture this place, a place which Minnie spent most of her married life in. Although Minnie is currently in jail, Minnie wanted to image herself as innocent. She has requested an apron, a shawl, and worried about her preserves to physically show she would still be a very good wife even after her husband has been murdered; in contrast, all the things in the kitchen were suggested as incompleted and undone work which she was criticized as ¡§not much of a housekeeper¡. After Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters the women described their sexual importance in life, Minnie¡s social and mental life is finally being described. Minnie was close and kept things to herself. She did not ever belong to the ladies aid. In other words, Minnie had no social life which probably suggested either she did no want to communicate since she did not enjoy thing when she felt shabby, or probably she was restricted to communicate with others under her husbands dictation.
