The day started out with the sun shined peacefully and ocean breezes were seemingly circulating the globe. Around the neighborhood, families were carrying out different activities in their front yards and were also trying to seize the day to its fullest-carwash, barbecue, sunbathing, and yard sales. Walking downtown on such gorgeous day, I came across an interracial-dating couple. Then a stereotypical thought ran through my mind right away: an Asian female is dating a Hispanic male? What a seldom combination. There is something very extraneous about interracial relationships that each of us perceives according to our own racial perceptions. With such racial perceptions linger in the American diverse society, interracial relationships and marriages are still considered to be a taboo.
             As the racial justification for slavery developed, the concept of "white-and-colored" began to get into the picture. The governing classes tried with their best efforts to weed out racial mixing. The aftermath was then the passage of laws against intermarriages. The first law to deter interracial marriages was enacted in the early colonial period, which states, "If any free born white woman intermarried with a Negro slave, she would have to serve her husband's master as long as the slave lived". Moreover, any outsiders who involve in facilitating such marriages will be fined (Racial History, 2001). These laws clearly were created to put forth the racial segregation despite the 14th amendment and other arguments afterward (pros or cons). There always seems to be a continual intolerance (or at least a conflicting view) toward an individual selecting his own marriage partner irrespective of race as the U.S becomes a more multi-racial society.
