Satire Essay

             This essay will discuss a Simpson episode, the satire in it and weather or not it was successful. The episode I will discuss is on Guns, in which Homer buys a gun to protect his family but loses them in the process.
             This Simpson's episode starts with a commercial for a soccer match which it's self uses satire by listing the names of all the South American players. It also lists the features of soccer such as low scoring, ties and slow game play but says it in a way to interest the viewer.
             The match it's self also use's satire in the two commentators. The American commentator is not impressed by the slow play and little action of the game whereas the South America is screaming into the microphone the names of the players this is an example of juxta position.
             As the crowd becomes less and less enthusiastic about the game and try leaving a riot breaks out over who is going to leave first, at this point Willie a Scotsman says to his fellow Scots ' Tis no soccer riot, let's take em' to school boys'. This is a parody on the violence of riots and how many Europeans take their sport so seriously. This riot continues into the night and over the news Mayor Quimbe declares Mob rule and every family for them self's. This is a pun on the saying every man for them self's.
             The next morning that follows Homer has called a security company called 'Ex-Con' home security this is also a pun. The security man offers them security for $500 and homer tells him that this is to much at this the man says " Surly you can't put a price on your family's safety" to this Homer replies " Well neither did I but here we are" as he pushes him out the door.
             In the next scene Homer is entering a gun shop called ' Blood Bath and Beyond'. Inside Homer asks where to find their most deadliest gun in replies to this the owner says &quo...
