School violence has been a problem since the mid 1700's. Ever since the incident at Columbine High school on April 20, 1999, I have been interested in school violence. There are so many possibilities as to why kids can knowingly massacre other kids. Bullying is at the core of every case of school violence. Finding this out could help society, by knowing what causes school violence we can find a way to prevent it.
I chose this topic because it is in the minds and on the lips of almost every American. When I chose this topic I wanted to find out why students could do these kinds of things. To find out why they do it has been very hard, all of the information is on how they did the massacres. After going though almost every search engine, I found two wonderful web sites. These sites provided me with most of my information.
The web pages I found were lifesavers; they provided me with information such as the psychologists view, and the three main reasons why kids who have committed school shootings committed them. These sights answered not only my research question but also almost every other question I had on school violence. If every American would read the information I have found, then the future of America's school safety looks bright. In the 50's school violence wasn't a problem, a troublemaker might interrupt or chew gum in class. In the 60's school violence increased dramatically, it dropped in the 70's and started back up in the 80's. I thought that besides a police station, school and church were the two safest places. In the last year both of these thoughts have changed for me. A man went into an Arlington church and killed 7 people including himself. In a school in Littleton Co. two troubled teenagers went in and killed 12 people and wounded 18 others. In my opinion we can cha!
nge this entirely if we only open our minds and our hearts.
