Psilocybe cyanescens, is scientific name for hallucinogenic mushrooms known as
             "Wavy Caps," or "Blue Halos". P. cyanescens is the most potent psilocybe mushroom known. It contains .85% of psilocybin, .36% psilocin, and .03% baeocystin; all being hallucinogens contained in psilocybe mushrooms. Psilocybe cyanescens prefers growing in clusters on hardwood and woodchips. It inhabits yards with ground bark and locations under the Douglas fir, the Cedar, or any trees from the genus Rhododendron. Psilocybe cyanescens favor a cold climate, over a warm one. They fruit from mid fall, through early winter in the Northwest Hemisphere.
             The cap of psilocybe cyanescens is 1.5 to 4 centimeters in diameter. It is chestnut brown in color, yet lightens to yellowish – brown with age. In general the mushroom appears broad with a wavy cap, which expands with age to a more concave look. When moist, the cap seems viscous and has a blue stripe around its margin. The stem is 2.5 to 6 millimeters in diameter, and is 3 to 8 centimeters tall. The color of the stem remains white at all time. The step appears to be slightly curved, and seems like it is composed of many fibers. The gills of the psilocybe cyanescens are so closely spaced that usually, they seem inseparable. They are stained with a dark cinnamon color, which lightens toward the outer edges. The spores are purple – brown, gray, or black, with a smooth and elliptic shape. Their size ranges from 9 X 6 X 5 micrometers, to 12 X 8 X 8 micrometers.
             Psilocybe cyanescens' potency attracts many people who consume mushrooms to experience a hallucinogenic affect. Many of them find it to be a very dangerous practice, since P. cyanescens has a number of toxic look – alikes in Galerina, Conocybe, and Inocybe genus.
