Beowulf is an Epic Hero. An epic hero is someone who has
superhuman qualities, who embodies the values of his society, and who is
larger than life. During his journey he usaully crosses a large body of water
and encounters many challenges along the way. This is also a good
description of Beowulf. During his epic journey he displays many
superhuman qualities. There is also examples of how he embodies the
values of his society. He also is larger than life. Beowulf shows his
superhuman strength when he battles Grendel.
For years, Hrothgar and his men had feared Grendel's attack. It
looked as if evil was being victorious. Grendel the monster from the under
world had terrorized Herot and eaten many of Hrothgar's bravest warriors.
The representative of evil enjoyed being feared and hated by those who
were good. Grendel represents evil by being selfish and destroing the the
people of Herot. For every monster there has to be a hero equally as

Beowulf hears of Grendel's nasty deeds through tales he heard from
sailors. He then gathers fourteen of his best men to fight Grendel. When he
seeks advice from his elder, they didn't disagree with his decision. Since
good always triumphs over evil, Beowoulf the national hero comes to Herot
to free the palace from evil. Beowoulf shows qualities of an epic hero in all
of his actions. On his journey he has to cross a huge sea to get to Herot. He
choose to battle hand to hand with no weapons against Grendel because
